Alico Mod Double 3 pin leather boot questions
These boots are super rugged, but I got a half a size too large. I'd like to trade them for a size 9 or sell them so I can get some money to buy a size 9. They're lightly used - consider it a favor that I started (only started) breaking these things in. It was murder on my feet!

How bout wearing I bigger sock, adding a thicker innersole or swapping the inner boot for a Morrow/Intuition thermomoldable liner Sz 9 you can get on Ebay these days for 15$? Thats what I did for my size 10 Andrew double boots and they are great that way, i'm usually a size 9!jooleyen wrote:These boots are super rugged, but I got a half a size too large. Nice ideas! I never even thought about those moldable liners. Like this?
ebay - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intuition-Liner ... 3ceeb3eb5d
fitting -
Did you fit them at home?
Maybe this will solve my dilemma of wanting a larger boot for warmth to use more socks, but not wanting to deal with the rubbing and heel lift.
I did try using more socks but got some weird hot spots on my feet. I tried about 3 different insoles - two from regular shoes and one green superfeet, but they all hurt my feet. It's like my feet get extra tired and my arches are on fire. I took the insoles out and it greatly reduced the pain. I think there would still be a little bit of fatigue just because the boots aren't completely broken in yet and are quite stiff.

Yup, using this tutorial without the support system. If your prone to ankle rubbing, you'd be better off with a pair of Pro-Tour Intuition liners even though they are pretty high (saw a pair on the MEC gear swap this week). I have tried out the intuitions I linked you to and they are fine for a size 8-9 foot. I got them for 15$ from them though. make sure you mold a deep heel cup on them though. Might need to improvise a power strap on them too to reduce ankle rubbing as they are a little stiff.jooleyen wrote: Did you fit them at home?

I actually linked to a different video than what I thought...
Do you recommend the Pro Tour to prevent blisters simply because it has laces to snug it on the foot better?
I actually did notice one day where I had rubbing near my ankles - never happened before that. I think it was because I had a different than usual sock combination on, and the stock liners that came with my boots have a bump of foam there, so I was getting some friction.
Would you recommend the stiff, medium, or soft if I were to get the Classic (original liner)?
I don't understand what you mean by 'without the support system'. Could you explain? Also, by 'deep heel cup', do you mean that I should keep lots of pressure on my heel while I let the thermo-mold cool on my foot?
Did you use the toe cup?
Is there any other good liner from them or anyone else worth considering in case I find a good deal?

I recommend the Pro-Tour because its designed to be the most forward-rear flexing intuition liner out there. Its like zero restriction so great for kick n glide. Notice the neoprene section behind the heel. that's part of it, more so than the laces i think.jooleyen wrote:I actually linked to a different video than what I thought...

As far as blisters and such, I have found that most of the tough heavier duty thick leather ski boots give me blisters. A stiffer intuition liner will as well if the foot moves inside of it when kicking and gliding. that's why i propose improvising a power strap on those cheap morrow/intuition liners, to help prevent the foot from moving inside of them during kick and glide. you see, the andrew boot's (not sure for the alico mods but i gather they are very similar) laces don't go up very high and the leather is quite stiff so i am not able to crank the liner enough so to speak to prevent heel lift. No problem when using the same liners in my Garmont excursions though (much better than stock liners).
Intuitions liners are 200$+ new. I would avoid paying that much if possible, that's why i recommend the 30$ morrow ones, keeping in mind they would ideally fit say a 8.5US. They also have a tongue rather that a wrap which is much better for k&g. i was lucky enough to find some pro tour used on this very forum. they are sweet. Intuition no longer makes short, tongued liners appropriate for XCD so there are no other models i would recommend for your application.
by support system, i simply trying to point to that contraption the guy built to keep the plastic shell of his boot wide open on the molding tutorial. for the heel cup, that's exactly what i meant. did not use the intuition toe cup as i did not have it. you don't need it, make your own. and i say go for the convection oven method over the rice bag method they propose on their site, i think it's probably quite inferior to what cooking in the convection will do in terms of molding. especially when using the morrow which was premolded for a snowboard boot, in a leather XC boot!
the only other thermomoldable liner brand i know of is Palau from France. I contacted them once about a replacement for the excursion liner as they once made the older thermomoldable liners for garmont. they said they could make one especially for me, and the price, including shipping was quite cheaper than intuition. so that might be an option, you'd have to email them though. I ended up quite happy with the morrow liner though so never went through with their offer.
all in all, like i said, if you are a 9 and can sometimes fit in a 8.5, try the morrow liners and play round with them. its damn cheap. and know that these liners are like VBL, they will not absorb humidity and will therefore keep you MUCH warmer, so you don't need as much sock with them and they will be easy to dry in a sleeping bag if camping. I like skiing them with just a thin wool liner sock.

Great reply. Thanks for all the clear answers. I'll definitely keep an eye out for the pro tour on forums and eBay. I've really got a while to find a pair for a decent price.
Also good to know on the VBL. I'm thinking I'll mold the liner to my foot with two polypropelyne socks. Reasons are I've heard that can reduce friction, and when they get wet with my sweat (since the intuition liners are VBLs), they should dry quickly.

I have some Alico Teletours size 9 if you're interested. They're a single boot with one buckle and laces, more oriented to touring.
Re: Trade - Alico Mod Double 3 pin leather boots size 9.5
I also bought a pair of those morrow intuition liners years ago, thinking I would use them in my T2s. That didn't work because they were not tall enough, and the tongue was not very substantial.
