Wide Last Xplorer Boot?

Post by voilenerd » Sat Sep 23, 2023 2:57 pm

Howdy,

I have a very wide foot. I wear extra wide in most shoe brands. Who makes the widest last boot for the Xplore boots?

Just some background, I’ve tried on several Fischer and Alpina and those were too narrow for my feet.

Thanks

I have a wide forefoot and frequently recommend Lundhags to the fellow-flippered.

I don't have these ones, but I suspect these might be good for you...

They now do three different lasts... I suspect the 'Wide' last will fit you (my feet fit the standard last on the previous iteration of their ski boots, before they adopted the new slim, regular and wide system), but you can check with Lundhags... their customer service is kind of amazing.

I asked around and was told Alfa was a good option for wide feet. I ordered a pair and they’re pretty comfy. Snug but not painful.

I would second that.
I tried Alaskas and they were just a little too tight across the ball of foot and in the toes.
Both the Alfa Free and the Alfa Guard have worked out well for me.
But, have never tried the Lundhags.

Holy cow, just saw that REI has Alfa boots at 30% off.
Give ‘em a try — send back if they don’t work?

Good to know about Alfa. I think I might pull the trigger on the Vistas. How is sizing on them compared to Alpina? Size down from Alpina?

If you can swing it, I highly recommend buying the same size as what fit in the Alpina, and also buy one size down.
That way, you’ll know for sure — and return the one that doesn’t work for you.
Might cost you an extra $20 or $30 for return shipping for the peace of mind to know for sure.

For me, Alaskas and Alfas fit same in length.
Other people say the Alfas run big.

Here are the sizing charts as posted on REI's website. I've skied both boots and I think REI's recommendation is spot on. REI's current pricing on Alfa boots (30% off) is amazing so if you are thinking about this boot, now is the time.

Thanks Tom. I plan on getting the Fischer 78s. I’m about 200lbs and 6ft 3. Go for the 199 length? Also I can’t decide between the Alfa Vista or Skaget for my Xplore binding. It seems the Vista is a little more burly and warmer from looking at reviews and pictures.

At your height, I think you would be more comfortable skiing the longest length. I haven't skied the Skaget, but I do like the Vista. That is the boot that I'd pair with the Traverse 78's and Discovery 80's for off trail XC skiing. If the Alfa boot fits your foot, then I'm sure you will be happy with its performance and warmth.
