Hello Good People,
Feeling optimistic, I picked up some powder boards for this coming El Nino at the local ski swap for a great price. When I got home and compared them to my old carving skis, I noticed that while they have the same binding, they are in what seems like a really different location on the ski...the Rossi S7 powder skis have the binding a good 4 inches forward of where they are mounted on my old G3 Tickets when they are standing next to each other on the ground. The S7's are slightly longer, but this seems like really different (see picture).
Do y'all think this one or the other is more "standard" setup? Thoughts on how this might ski differently or if it has to do with being a powder board? These skis also have some rocket at the tail/tip, so maybe that changes it?
Thanks!!

Have you tested, if the bindings are installed at balance point? Balance a ski on top of a credit card edge. Where it does not fall off immediately, is balance point.
See link below for a summary of different options where to install XCD bindings.

Might the Rossignols be installed at boot center? It looks like that in the photo, where you can see (almost) whole skis.

The Rossi's are mounted WAY too far forward. The G3's paper to be around boot center on ski center, which to me is already a forward mount for tele.

Thank you Phoenix...this is what I was thinking too, they just seem really far forward.

It really depends on the construction of the ski, i.e. weight balance, sidecut profile, and tip/tail rocker. Check the manufacturer's recommended boot centerline and see how that compares to the mount. I would not go by visual inspection alone. Some skis are very tip heavy and specify a mount that looks too far forward in order to turn properly.
Once you know that, there's an additional question about how much you will be edging on hard pack vs. surfing pow. If it's truly a powder ski, like only for fresh turns on deep pow days, I mount a tele binding a bit behind the manufacturer's recommended centerline. For an all mountain ski that will see some powder and some hard pack, I'd go with the recommendation. Obviously this is a personal preference but it's a good starting point if you don't know your preference yet.

Are the skis pretty schralped? They coulda been owned by someone younger who's into weird shit like skiing fakie and doing rails and park stuff

Good consideration for some circumstances, but those Rossi's are absurdly forward for anything. Looks like a mistake on the mount to me. On the bright side, clearance will be a non-issue on a remount!

Thank you all for the help, really appreciated...I guess in theory I could try and remount the bindings?

You, or someone else, could definitely remount those if you want the skis. Plenty of advice and help here if you want it. Expect a lot of differing opinions if you ask where to mount 'em! I'll start, and take the initial flak... pins on chord center!
