Looking for Advice

Post by lcgrant » Tue Jan 28, 2025 10:39 am

Hi there,

I am hoping get into Telemark this year.

I will be a beginner telemark skier, but in alpine I would classify as an expert. I am 5'9" (179cm?) 175 lbs (79 kgs?) totally dry. I usually ski ~180 cm skis or an EE of around 1450-1500. I live in CO and ski mostly here or out on the wet coast. I already have boots Scarpa tx pro 26.5 (used with blown out pins) and I am probably going to try and buy a set of outlaw X's.

My question is what kind of ski should I get? Rocker-camber, rocker-camber-rocker, full rocker, traditional?

I guess my question is around should I run a ski with flatter tails for more end of turn power? Or should I run a more bi-directional ski so I can swing the rear easier? Do I also want to run my normal sizing or should I size down?

I have a set of kind torn up Enforcer 100 172, and a set of 4frnt MSP 107 181's laying around and would be second mount on either. Either one a better starter setup? should I go a totally different route?

Thanks in advance!

Thankfully for you, you’ll be starting with a boot and binding combo that’s gonna give you power to spare. Turning a ski on that setup won’t be much of an issue once you figure out the basics. Personally, I would go with the 4ftnt. I think that ski is better suited to match the shape and finesse of a telemark turn, and is going to be more fun in fresh snow. I have a pair of liberty origin 106’s mounted with 22 designs vice bindings, and I really enjoy that setup for lift serviced skiing
Klister?? I barely know her!
