This is the World Famous TelemarkTalk / TelemarkTips / Telemark Francais Forum, by far the most dynamic telemark and backcountry skiing discussion board on the world wide web since 1998. East, West, North, South, Canada, US or Europe, Backcountry or not. https://telemarktalk.com/
July 04 2024 I rendered my last pair of tele skis unusable. I was fully interested in the dark side, fixed heel AT. Bedazzled by numerous choices and availability. Then an add, Summit cone, Tele specific skis. The Fey Brothers have shown me the Way. The Pariah 97 are an all-mountain, free heel, Bad A. Most enjoyable, only limited by myself. I'm reinstating my cult status of 30 years and making the alpinemark turn accepted and appreciated. The Alpinemark turn is a stable and strong stance that should be in anyone's bag of tricks. Also, New skis seem to get action out of the tails.

I've not heard this term before, is this like fake-a-mark? Or just parallel turns on a freeheel setup? I'm intrigued

Am I correct that you're using the term to describe turning while in an alpine stance, rather than dropping into a telemark stance?
If so, while learning, you'll inevitably use this (Alpinemark, Telepine, fakeamark - whatever) but as you progress, it has very little utility. The snowplow is of more use. At the end of the day, when I'm smoked, I'll do it on occasion. But it should be something to avoid, not embrace, from the standpoint of learning the telemark turn. OTOH, if it's something you really enjoy, I can't argue against it.

Or “paramark”, as I’ve heard it referred to. But we’re all just guessing; "sometimes snowboard” can you tell us, or better yet show a pic or clip of what the turn you’re calling Alpine mark actually is?

I use it when I’m tired (no idea it had a name). Not ideal but I don’t see it as a sin. Just another way to get down the hill.
