Just picked these up today. How screwed am I? Seems like part of the screw is broken and stuck in the heel tube. Worst case scenario, new heel tube and rear cable? Any diy fix?

The Gang at 22 Designs typically respond pretty quickly. When I had an issue with my Bandits they solved the problem on the phone when I called.

You can screw in broken litttle spring, shift the cable and continue skiing. To shift the cable you need to unlock it in the spring cartridge. Remove rubber plate to free spring cartridge, and youll see what to do.
Of course, write 22 designs, they can send you new cable.

Thanks! I think that should get me going. Just trying to avoid ordering from 22 designs while tariffs are in place. I want to order the Stiffy springs at the same time, but it can wait

Those tubes generally spin pretty freely in the heel tube. 22Designs refers to them as "adjustment coils"
A quick fix is to completely unthread the side that isn't broken. Then insert a small bladed screwdriver (3-4mm wide) against the inner-wall of the adjustment coil that is still in the heel tube and lightly wedge the screwdriver blade against the cable. Now spin the heel tube to back the broken adjustment coil out. Once the broken end of the adjustment coil is proud of the heel tube you should be able to unthread it all the way out by hand.
Once its fully clear of the heel tube, split the broken portion lengthwise with a Dremel or small coping saw, pry it open, and remove it from the cable. Obviously don't nick the cable with the Dremel.
You shouldn't even need to shift the cable in the spring cartridge. You'll just have one adjustment coil showing as shorter then the other but both will be up against the stop on the end of the cable that is hidden in the heel tube.
let us know how it works out for you,
Cheers.

Very Nice,
Glad it worked out for you. And the robe as work clothes is a nice touch in the video.
Based on how much adj. coil was broken off inside the heel tube, were you able to re-thread the rest of the adj coil into the tube and use it with your boots?

Judging from the amount of screw I'll be left with, and the amount outside the tube on my good binding fitted to my boot, I'll be fine. Will cut off the adjuster Coil at work today
