There was no widespread and serious discussion of putting people in re-education camps during Covid, Lhartley.

Bro. Explain to me where I said "wide spread". You're putting words in my mouth. What I said is that this idea was out there and it happened. Would you like examples? Or can we agree it happened? Because I don't appreciate being called a liar.

Quite right. You said there was "all sorts of talk" about putting people in re-education camps during Covid.
This is misinformation. It isn't true. You repeated this. And this is not responsible.

Huh? You told me I said wide spread. Show me where I said that please. Lots ≠ Widespread. I saw lots of deer on the hiway this morning. I have made lots of mistakes in my life. There were lots of telemarkers at Alta on world telemark day. Lots of members on this forum are represented by artificial intelligence.

Quite right, you never said "widespread". That was my misinterpretation.Lhartley wrote: ↑Mon Mar 03, 2025 9:35 amHuh? You told me I said wide spread. Show me where I said that please. He proceeds to talk about how the government puts people against people, “Perhaps the mistress reports the wife, perhaps the wife reports the mistress. It doesn’t matter, they will not return”. He talks about Stalin opening prisons, don’t speak against comrade Stalin. He talks about a government that has a policy of making people disappear, not to be seen again, and parents fearing their children as children are taught to tell if their parents speak against the state. Neighbor against neighbor, the state atheist, again speak against the state, there are consequences.
He mostly speaks of the horror of the gulags. A horror that is a terrible grind to read of for 100’s of pages. No paratroopers drop in, no man kicks 100’s of asses, takes bullets, yet wins. No, 100’s of pages of living a horror, starving, freezing, and a world where another prisoner can also commonly be your death. Probably for years, as close as you could come to hell on earth.
In the process, the communist, atheist, grandson of an Othrodox Russian grandmother becomes a believer, but I never heard him say the words. I believe he did.
He wrote it, so his countrymen would recognize how the Bolshevik’s took over. So they could understand the methods used.
He wasn’t warning about Donald Trump, quite the opposite actually.
It was a difficult book, and a great book. He was a genius. I do have problems wading through Russian literature, in general, but that's a stylistic issue and I have a short attention span! But there's a lot of wisdom in these works. But I think he explicitly converted to Christianity as he was being treated for cancer in the Gulag. Though never in a gulag, I too converted under similar circumstances. "There are no atheists in foxholes", to paraphrase the saying!

We do not have the luxury of writing these kinds of things on the internet any more.
We desperately need consensus. We desperately need solutions. We need to stop spreading fiction as if it were fact, or we're never going to get out of this crisis.

Again, I assure you I did not imagine this chatter. And I also remind you that we live on opposite sides of the world, and you could not possible know what information I am receiving.

I'll just provide evidence of what was implied, or the evidence that remains, which is generally state assurance that these things would not happen. If the state is assuring people these things would not happen, it's because the ideas are being explored. I live in the most polarized province in Canada, there was a LOT of shit going. People were literally rioting in the streets, they were responding to ideas whether the ideas whether misinformation or not. I AM NOT saying that these ideas were created or repeated by real people. What I saw was by far majority, and likely perpetuated by bots. BUT, those accounts always subscribed to same sets of ideology

We're all going a bit bonkers over here. I'm even arguing about politics on the internet for the first time in 20 years, which is an indication I should probably go outside with wooden shoes on.
