Covid vaccines

Hey guys, just a heads up on the vaccine (Pfizer/Moderna) Baby Sis is a physician so she moved to the front of the line. She said no problem with the first dose, the second dose hit her though. I know my brother in law was in charge of dinner that night. She was surprised to be hit hard, however everything was back to normal the following day. She told me to be careful about what responsibilities I schedule for the day after dose two. Being a white male under 65 in Michigan, I am not near eligible at this point.

Dose #2 yesterday morning. So far, less symptoms than 1st shot.
I’m going to ski it off!

I got my second shot of the moderna vaccine yesterday afternoon and the soreness in my shoulder is almost gone. I did have a slight headache this morning, took two advil and a nap and feel pretty good now. If things soften up I may go for a ski today.

I’m not LAA, but things did soften up, and skiing I went.
Guilty of topic drift.
It has gone from winter to spring in a few days. Four day old powder is now a 40* compacted snow cone.
Fun.

Coming back to the subject at hand, I’m struck by the significance of getting a second COVID vaccine shot.
For the last year, everyone has been a mortal threat.
I’ve had very little interest in being with people — it’s has been like “This person has the potential to kill me.”
Giving my son a hug was a calculated risk: I am willing to accept this risk to feel and express my love for my son.
Now, risk has been reduced to an acceptable level, and I can once again feel like I’m not risking my life by being closer than six feet to another human being.
This seems like a pretty big deal to me.
I just hope that vaccine production ramps up quickly, so more of us are able to experience this return to “normalcy.”
There’s still a lot of people in line for this.

On march 8, Summit County Utah (and other counties, I'm guessing, in Utah) are opening vaccinations up to those age 50 and over.

• Profits. HCA made nearly $4 billion in profits in 2020 during the
pandemic, up more than $200 million from 2019.2 At the same time the
company cut supply costs by $112 million,3 even though workers spoke out
for months about inadequate PPE and having to reuse single use equipment
like masks and gloves.4

• Staffing Levels. In 2019, HCA’s staffing levels were 29 percent below the
national average.8 HCA’s low staffing levels have been linked to poor
patient outcomes. For example, low staffing levels at HCA’s Colorado
hospitals may have contributed to patient death as well as other preventable
harm. From the Denver Post: “A patient at North Suburban Medical Center
died this spring after no one was available to change the battery on a
machine measuring blood oxygen levels, in what employees and inspection
records reveal is only the most extreme example of dangerous understaffing
of HealthOne hospitals in metro Denver. Five nurses and a doctor who’ve
worked at North Suburban and two other Denver-area hospitals owned by
HealthOne told The Denver Post they were understaffed, leading in some
cases to an increase in preventable pressure sores and infections, and a
failure to regularly provide basic hygiene care.”9

Some governments are talking about vaccine passports. I'm guessing this is the way it'll be implemented. It also is a central location for scheduling and record keeping, it seems.

It appears that the CDC considers "fully vaccinated" as being 2 weeks after a single dose of the J&J/J vaccine!

You're right about not being able to opt in. I was actually contacted via email with a code to sign onto VAMS after I got my first shot, as was my wife.
The site has our "shot records" and schedules for our second shots.

It looks like VAMS may be an attempt to collect info from various sites into one place.

My fervent hope is that the 2 or 3 telemarketers (as opposed to telemarkers!) left, will finally be able to get my contact information so that I can extend my car warranty!
