Cleese-Lovitz

This is the place to debate politics, global warming, and yes, even the origin of man, whatever. Simply put, if you want to argue about off topic stuff, you've found the right board. Have fun!

Cleese-Lovitz

Cancel Culture, Political Correctness /Wokeness

Politically I am from the Center Right here in Europe which equates to the slightly left-of-center wing of the Democratic Party in the USA.

One "issue" I do not agree with whatsoever with the left in America is cancel-culture and PC. I agree with John Cleese, John Lovitz, and, Dave Chapelle that if you can't laugh at yourself, your group , etc. then you have a big personal problem and should probably go back to your mommy's tit. Fuck you if you can't take a joke!

The current restrictive reasoning is utter bullshit, and stems from a not-very-funny generation who is even worse off musically. Phone-gazing bots who think the entire world should be governed by Twitter's or Tik Tok's Terms of Service.

BTW I agree with about nothing from the right in America, the GOP is now nothing more than a fascist organization.

So it's OK to make fun of people with disabilities or disease? I mean, there's nothing quite as funny as a good AIDS joke. Is it cool to make fun of people who experience rape or domestic violence? The only thing funnier than making jokes about wife beating is maybe poking fun at marginalized groups who've been terrorized over their lifestyle or sexual orientation to the point of suicide. It's OK to poke fun at holocaust suvivors? Should they just grow a pair when I feel like cracking a joke at their expense?
I'm all for people growing thicker skin and laughing at myself, but where do you draw the line between a joke and being a hateful dick who perpetuates harmful stereotypes?

I agree all terrible subjects. Like Lovitz said, if you don't like it you can change the channel (or not stream it, don't buy the DVD, walk out of the club, etc.). Seems like that would end the problem?

@connyro

"Don't make me dust off the "Get off my lawn" meme..."

That won't be necessary, I have six acres of weeds and no lawn. You can safely go back to your Britney Spears playlist now :)

PS: Are you making fun of elderly people? Despicable behavior!

I took this in Northern Ireland on a bike trip- Galway to Stavanger, Norway:

Sure, let's assume people will just use common sense, because that's a reflection of reality 🙄

Britney Spears! That's pretty funny considering she was 90s or something? Now that's a good joke.
PS: Are you making fun of elderly people? Despicable behavior!
