As much as I like the Xplore bindings for the control they offer over NNN-BC, these issues are worrying. I am definetely happy and convinced by the Xplore system, but if my life would depend on reliability (eg. expedition style tour across greenland) I would probably use NNN-BC. OTOH on that kind of tour you take spare bindings/skis anyways.

I wonder if this was a production issue, if corrosion contributed and if there is anything we should be aware of around use or storage. This with Theme's wear in this thread give some pause with regard to durability.
The recent Xplore bindings have a different insert:
It is visibly different around the holes, and it would be interesting to know if there has been any changes to the rest of it also. I suspect the insert is cast steel, and then it is not as strong a forged steel insert or a full CNC aluminum binding.
The question can also be where we want the Xplore system to fail. Perhaps the binding towers is the best place, instead of the pin cartridge in the boot or any of our ligaments or bones. It is non-releasable, so considering snow conditions and limiting skier's speed is probably well advised. I still really like the system so far.
With regards to screws; My latest Xplore binding came with new screws of mid length (30800451: Screw kit Xplore Mid length, 14 pcs/bag) in addition to the regular short ones. They were longer and had more threads at the tip too, similar to older 75 mm bindings screws. The new screws had a smaller Torx bit though, so two steps forward and one back it seems.
I don't have a picture now and have not compared them directly as the bindings were mounted on skates with machine screws.
