On the other hand... my current skis are the 2010 Madshus Glittertind, 200 cm (68/55/62), which are great in the right conditions. So maybe I should get the Excursion 88s to provide the biggest difference from the Glitts. Basically just looking for a decent all-around ski.
FWIW I have the 88 in 199cm. I've been doing a lot of touring on snowmachine trails lately. I have had a lot of situations where the trail is too steep to climb even with the EZ Skins on, so i have to herringbone or sidestep up the hill. The skis are often long enough that I'm scraping tip and tail on the banks of the trail. At that point its easier just to take them off. I feel like it still uses more energy to walk up with my boots digging into the snow though. In these situations the shorter skis would probably help. A similar problem occurs when descnding the same trails. Its not always safe to just rocket straight down the trail and the banks are close enough together that wedging is tricky. I had a couple instances where I had to pick my way through dense alder thickets to avoid descending on the steep, narrow trails.

I just ordered the 78s in 99 length. Maybe I’ll get the 88s next year. I’m still not sure which length is best since Fischer says I should have gotten them in 89 but no matter — I’m just glad i was able to find some at all this year.

Just wanted to post a quick picture of the rocker on my 88s to see how it compares to others. It does seem pretty significant, but that's just my subjective opinion.
