Salut Ben,

Does the Helsport allows to hike climb with nnnbc boots, protecting it from damage, or is it some kind of campshoe? Maybe 40below does something like I'm looking for...

@lilcliffy so by protection I meant can it protect the front metal bar of my Alfa guard if I hit a rock by walking with those overtrek?

I understand that is is not waterproof .. when they get wet inside, is it easy to dry?

And about the sole of the overtrek, is it sticky or slidy? Can you put crampons?

Thanks in advance,

Laurence

Yes- it does protect the toe bar as it is a complete overboot.

It is fairly waterproof- at least in very cold weather- it would not be waterproof if submerged in water.

The sole is grippy- for snow and ice.

It will not take crampons- the sole is soft and flexible.

This overboot is not intended for hiking, climbing, etc.

This overboot is very, warm- wind proof and water resistant- and extremely light- it rolls up very small and can be tucked in a pack.

They are intended to be pulled on over ski boots and worn in camp in very cold weather.
I will even pull them on at lunch on a day-tour in very cold weather.

I bought them on clearance on the Alfa site.

And do you recall, because they sometime take their time to answer, if you choose their 43-44 size for instance, is it for people with boots to fit in that are 43-44, or you'll get 43-44 size overtrek? Thanks again

If you get a 43-44, they are designed to fit a boot that is 43-44EU (i.e. they are much larger than a 43-44 inside!)

Just checked mine- they are size "42-43"- both my size 42 and size 43 boots will fit in these- with a full gaiter on.
Will check them with my 3pin boots some time.

I decided to try it also, as a luxury item, staying close to city for now, no extended trips. Used to ultralight in summer (not stupid light but still), and those boots represent my tent and sleeping bag in summer... So it's light, relatively light, but not sure I would take it for multi days weeks trips, still to try, feels really comfy. Again, really light compared to my initial setups so maybe I'm just comparing the weight of the boots to my growing laziness comming from me relaying more on light gear than on my strength.

For the looks, maybe I should send it to Johnny so he can make a rad thing out of it.

For size, my Alfa guard (nnnbc) are 44 and the Overtrek are the 45-46 and it fits well (possible tight laces). All the best, transfering to the "how to turn" posts now.
