Asnes skin adaptor

Post by Bri7 » Sat Oct 10, 2020 12:53 pm

Are you unsatisfied with skin assortement? Do you want to play around with your skins and find the perfect model for you? Ever wanted to have a longer skin? A green one? A grey one? A black one? Full width skin? A fischer profoil under an Asnes ski? This one is for you.

Its been quite a challenge but I did come up with a solution made in Canada from austenitic stainless steel.

The skins attachements are pre drill with 1/8” holes. So far, the easiest way I found to attach the skin is a pop rivet. Of course, I haven’t tested them yet. I’m pretty confident it fits all Asnes ski models, it fits pretty thight on my two Asnes pairs. The pieces have been cut with a cnc laser and the 2 bends where made also with a cnc bending machine. Overall tolerances should be within a few mils (0.001”).

If you are just like me and like to play around with things, this is for you. I’m not looking to make any money out of this. 10$ USD a pair plus shipping.

Exactly what I did a few years ago, turning my Tindans, Rabbs and Armadas into waxless monsters... No need to sacrifice a pair of 70$ X-Skin just for the attachment piece anymore... 8-)

Has anyone taken on the challenge of the other side of this DIY question - modifying a ski (non-Asnes ski) to accept the x-skin attachment?

It seems like making the little slots should be a simple matter of some Dremel tool work. Getting the holes lined with something waterproof, maybe an epoxy or urethane, and leaving slots in this plastic material seems like the main trick.

Do you still have any of these left?

I am thinking maybe I might want to make a few ProFoil kicker skins in different widths...

I PM'd the OP in 2020, who said he was working on an improved tip. Not a word about it since, and he's not posted on the board about anything since Nov 2022.
