Asiago, the high plateau

Post by randoskier » Tue Dec 26, 2017 3:24 pm

We decided to have a white Christmas so we drove up to Asiago (yeah the cheese town), 1500 meters up on a high limestone plateau. Figured we would get in some nordic skiing on the 18km loop trail through the forest at the Rifugio di Campolongo (mtn hut). Surprised to find their restaurant open, and lucky enough to get a table, we then had a very serious 3-course Christmas lunch. Packed with boisterous Italian families there was a constant chorus of "Buon Natale". When we were finished I decided that I was too heavy to ski so at that point we drove back down the 17 hairpin turns and headed back home. Moral of our story- ski first, eat later. Buon Natale!
