Just wanted to take a few minutes of your time to share some picture of the opening of Mont Alta this week-end.
Located in the center of the Laurentians snow belt, Mont Alta is like no others. The buildings are falling apart, the is no snow making, you can hardly tell if you are eating a club sandwich or a hot chicken at the cafeteria and the place itself doesn't look very attractive from the road. But once you parked you car, put your boots on and get into the lift your realize what this place as to offer! The ski aera has been close last year due to financial problems and I was kind of sad to see that place disappear. So me and some friends decided late this summer that this place needed to reborn form its ashes. With the help of the owner we started gather some money and sell membership. Few months later we did manage the impossible and we reopened the place. This week-end was the season opener, while most of the south eastern area are lacking snow, there is plenty of snow at Alta and guess what, even if the mountain as a grooming machine, they don't use it (almost)!
There is only one lift at Alta, an old double Poma from the 1960. Don't be fool by its age, it reaches speed of 2.3 m/s so you get up there pretty fast! There's a lot of narrow trails with soft moguls in it! Can it really get better than this?
