What if you want to XCD offtrail?

I saw some pictures and the terrain doesn't look all that steep and the trees are pretty well spaced (I'm sure not everything is that way). Looks like it could be great Epoch/Annum - Stiff Leather/Soft Plastic territory... maybe I'm wrong but it looked like perfect XCD territory to me.

I want to see the Caribou too. Is there a mountain you can observe them from with binoculars?

I'd be there in a heartbeat if I had some time off work and it wasn't a million miles away.

How is it up there at the end of March? Still skiable?

My wife has a week off and I can take a few days. I was going to go ski with the Love man, and I'm pretty sure he won't go... but I have the itch.

Off trail skiing isn't officially permitted in the park.

Steepness varies on location. There are plenty of low angle areas with relatively easy access from the road. The steeper stuff takes some climbing/slogging to get to.

Caribou can be seen on Mt Albert and Mont Jacques Cartier. Both mtns can be hiked in the summer.

I've been itching to tour above treeline in the parc de la Gaspesie for at least five years, and stay in a hut or two. But I've yet to find anyone willing to go!

I've printed out articles and gave them to several guys I know, but never any serious talk. It's a 16hr drive. I'm to the point where I'm going to pay for gas, outfit my Pathfinder with a rooftop carrier, pick a week, and anybody who wants to go can jump in. They bring the craft beer. I'll advertise it a few months in advance. It's seriously wrong that I haven't been able to do this trip in five years of wanting to. Skiing above treeline in the East!!

But it won't be this year. I just booked a week of xc-sking in the Adirondacks for mid February with my family (very grateful for that). I can't back out now, nor do I have a passport for Canada.

So come next November there's going to be planning!!!!!

Hold me to it guys!!!

Fortunately, this is no longer true. The parc now even allows winter camping in some restricted areas and a decent number of slopes are open to backcountry skiing.

That's good news. What areas are available for camping? where are the new ski slopes?
