I'm not quite sure how someone might have the above experience if the technique is not really any different.connyro wrote: My impressions: These skis are very light! I got these in the mail and immediately charged out to my favorite low angle slope in the woods with the intention of getting some turns. That's right: I went right for what this setup is not really made for: turns in deep snow. Between the double camber, stiffness of the ski, the low cut of those boots, and my lack of skill on light/NNN-BC gear, I flopped, floundered, and got frustrated: it was humbling.
Sounds like someone needs some humbling.connyro wrote:This is a load of crap IMO. I ski 99% of the time in the 'gonz' or ''bush' (also called 'the woods') nowhere near a 'ski area'. I ski 'modern alpine tele' based on your definition (plastic boots, wide, rockered skis), AND I ski what you call 'old tyme tele' (leathers, skinnies) and technique used between the two is not really any different from each other. In fact, skiing on groomed snow is basically the same technique as well IF you have good technique. You may consider trying out some more modern gear to complement your old gear and you may find you that can expand the terrain you feel comfortable skiing. I'm pretty sure you never will TM, but maybe it helps someone else see through your BiaS.greatgt wrote:Couple of thingers here boys....Ski area tele and bush tele are different paradigms.....Modern equipment and olde tyme tele are different worlds....Sometime while in the gonz and heading them down see how the thing kinda works...Fore ski breaks and forms a trough or in nautical forms a wake....Inside that vortex rests the back ski which becomes the rider while the fore ski continues to break and set the direction....In this kind of telemark you want to be inside the wake of the fore ski because it has far less resistance....Modern (Apine) tele doesn't do this because the stance is so far apart...Different kind of tele at the least....and probable much closer to downhill tele....Take your pick.... Also on stand up tele in the bush it's a good position to view all that's coming....Dropping now and then into low ball tele usually is for power...One would do that more at a ski area than the bush where your ready position is mostly stand up tele....Thinl of it this way....Heading into a dip, natural mogul, you want options...and if your on different equipment the more options the better....gtt

What's your point MikeK? I'm pretty sure everyone struggles with bad snow, mismatched gear, inadequate technique etc. Doesn't mean we can't improve or at least strive to improve. Being humbled is not a bad thing. I never claimed to be infallible. You sound bitter.
Re: interesting old 3-pin Telemark instructional video
Not at all. Just having a laugh at your BiaS.connyro wrote: You sound bitter.
Who's MikeK? Do you really even know who that guy is? I bet not. I don't remember ever meeting you.
Re: interesting old 3-pin Telemark instructional video
Get out and ski MikeK. It will make you feel a whole lot better.
Re: interesting old 3-pin Telemark instructional video
I feel great. Seems you are the one who had a problem with my observation.connyro wrote:Get out and ski MikeK. It will make you feel a whole lot better.
If the technique is the same, you should be able to jump on any skis and rip. Seems like that wasn't the case. All I'm sayin'. Some others might agree. And I'm pretty sure most of gramps skiing is on "inadequate" gear.
Re: interesting old 3-pin Telemark instructional video
If that's your reality, go for it. The technique is the same. If technique is inadequate, get better. Pretty simple, but if you want to make a big deal, it's fine with me. If you have a problem with me, maybe we shift over to PM instead of making a big deal in public?
Re: interesting old 3-pin Telemark instructional video
Maybe you should take your own advice in regards to other users.connyro wrote: If you have a problem with me, maybe we shift over to PM instead of making a big deal in public?
I have nothing to hide, unlike yourself. If you want to get defensive over what was quoted above, please continue. You could have just ignored it, but I know you better than that.
