I have. Results would have been similar.
At some point when skill is low enough and conditions are difficult enough it doesn't really matter I don't think.
I think even alpine skis would have been difficult. I flew too close to the sun...

I know... I'll have to change someday... There's not a single part of my body that doesn't ache constantly...
I'm vegan for ethical reasons only. I couldn't care less about health.
I don't eat anything with animal products. (There's beef and chicken fat and broth in EVERYTHING!). I don't like fruits, they taste like shit here and they are never ripe. I don't eat gluten stuff either. (There's wheat in EVERYTHING!). So I don't have much left to eat... And I can't afford the good stuff so...
Hey don't forget: The less fat you eat, the lighter you are. Which means, better flotation...
Ahahahahahahah! That video is SOOOOOooo funny!!!!

Jeez, I'd think your teeth would be aching the worst!
My sis is a vegan for the same reasons. Her BF and daughter eat meat though, or she lets them. She is more against the mass produced meat houses... me too, that shit is gross. At least when you buy meat from a real farm the animals had a good life.
We raised our own animals when I was young. It was sad to see them go to the slaughter house, but it's part of the circle of life. We took good care of them and fed them well until it was time. And as heartless as it sounds, they tasted SO GOOD!
It's hard to keep in mind what is food and what is pets. And even the food animals need to be respected.
I don't know what's wrong with gluten unless you are allergic to it. Humans have been eating that shit for thousands of years with no problems. I love wheat. Wheat bread, wheat beer... wheat is sweet! I think that campaign got a little out of hand, but to each his/her own.

??? How do you propose to verify that claim ?
I am with you on the gluten craze : 99% of it (or more) is just that..There's no science to it ..
I don't think humans , at this stage, have to kill and eat animals at all but we are somewhat programmed to enjoy the pleasures of evolution !
BTW LJ, I feel for ya on the fruits and veggies : cross the border and there are none in season or even tempting! But even down here, we grow and east and preserve the likes of tomatoes and various fruits (dried fruits and canned slasa, frozen green beans can corn ..) because in winter (or even after mid-October), getting fresh fruit is a joke --veggies can be frozen .. Tomatoes picked green in Mexico or Florida are just something red to put in the salad! And you poor Frostbacks have a much worse time of it than we!

Re: What powers your skis?
It's very simple. The animals on real organic farms (and all the small farms I knew were organic before that became a big buzz word) eat what they are supposed to eat, have shelter, aren't pumped full of hormones or forced into small cages. They've been bred so much to be accustomed to this they wouldn't even run away. The fences are just to keep them out of roads and off other peoples property.
The animals we raised ourselves were just like that. If I would have let them free they just would have died anyway. It's not like we are talking about caging up wild beasts here...
If you treat them humanely they have it pretty good. No better or worse than a pet except that you are going to eat them.
Seems to me that certain animals just got accustomed to humans. They leached off us for food and protection and we took their milk, eggs and eventually meat. It was a lot easier than stalking and killing the wilder ones.
And I have no issues with hunting either. Deer, for instance, in this area, are horribly overpopulated. They just wind up dying from disease and starvation that way. Seen as how there are no wolves, which normally would have controlled the population, humans do. And even then because of political reasons we can't do it very well. There are stores of deer that hide out in places that can't be hunted (they don't want to be shot anymore than they want to be eaten by wolves). But the ecosystem can't support them and they starve and go to waste. I'd rather people eat them.
Even so I'd wager to say any pig on a farm has an easier life than a wild deer. And if you feed the deer and fence them in a big enough area, they don't even know. It's no different than them being isolated by natural boundaries as far as they are concerned.
Anyway, I get why people don't eat meat. But plants and fungi are alive too. And I just follow the laws of nature. My teeth and stomach are adapted to eating animals and plants. If they weren't, I wouldn't crave it or be able to tolerate it. Try to feed a true herbivore meat and see what they do. They couldn't eat it if they wanted, or if so, very little before they became sick.

Re: What powers your skis?
It's quite simple alright ; we went from "real" farm to "a real organic ( a very nebulous term at best) farm "
And all animals will die one way or another, that's not really completely rational justification for HUMANS killing and eating them ..
We have many wolves out here, but many people oppose them on the "moral" grounds of their "brutality"..
And "they" got used to us because we took them and tamed them (relatively) by thousands of years of breeding and conditioning..

Yeah well if you've ever lived in farm country you would know what I mean. Real farms are organic farms. Then there are big businesses which maybe don't always do things in the most humane or ethical ways.Raventele wrote:It's quite simple alright ; we went from "real" farm to "a real organic ( a very nebulous term at best) farm "

And yes, I want you to take a domestic cow or pig and just let it stay outside all winter. It will most likely die. A house cat has a better chance of survival on it's own than some domesticated animals we eat.
And humans have killed and eaten animals for 1000's of years. The rationalization here is whether we hunt them or raise them ourselves, not whether or not we eat them. Go tell any primitive hunting and gathering culture to stop eating meat because you feel it's immoral and they'd string you up by your toes. It's part of their survival.
Oppose the wolf all you want. Them hunting and eating meat is as natural as you or I doing the same. It just happens we are a bit better adapted to eating different types of things.
And I've still never heard a good counter-argument as to why a live plant is any less than a live animal. Just because it doesn't scream when you kill it doesn't make it any less of taking the life of a living thing.
The food chain is what it is. I have nothing more to say on that.
