It's a shame that pictures of the lights don't do them justice!randoskier wrote: ↑Tue Jan 04, 2022 3:21 pmLet there be light! Bjellvasssstua. 01:30, WAY more vivid in reality, that was quick shots. This show lasted about ten minutes.

I took this in northern Iceland on 8 June this past summer, It is the northernmost glacier in Iceland; the Drangajökull. It probably looks a lot like that Alaskan one in the winter though it is much smaller.Montana St Alum wrote: ↑Tue Jan 04, 2022 1:51 pmKind of looks like the Harding Ice Field in Alaska, but I'm guessing they all look alike!.

I did, but never had a decent camera. Back before the world went crazy flight attendants would come up to see them. Beautiful. My son in Alaska has a good camera and took some great pix. I'll get him to resend them.

Is the icefiled named after Tanya Harding?Montana St Alum wrote: ↑Tue Jan 04, 2022 2:36 pmSome more Harding pictures. I wasn't there, but it does look spectacular. When my sons go on these adventures, my wife and I follow them on Google Earth via satellite texts.

With my Garmin In Reach Mini I can send satellite texts that arrive with a small topo map of my location. In the far north of Norway there is thankfully little cell coverage. People in the cabins still talk to each other and tell stories.
Re: Pictures, pictures and pictures!
here's some aurora shots from my backyard.
long exposure and large aperture...good tripod and large down jacket
p.s. Harding icefield is named after President Warren Harding. Tanya Harding... lol good joke!
I havent visited exit glacier in a long time...it has receded alot...even the last time I was there.

It would be nice to have a "Like" function on the forum!
Edit:
I was looking through photos for Northern Light photos and didn't find any but came across some pictures from flying out of Seattle (SEA). On a nice day, you could request the "Rainier visual". They'd let you maneuver, VFR to stay south and west of the mountain. I'd cruise in around 17,000 feet or so on a slow climb and go into a slow left turn around the mountain. The passengers loved it and when I got to Salt Lake and slammed the airplane into the runway, hardly anyone bitched about it!
And no, I never skied it!
