My humble personal observation...

Post by Johnny » Sun Jan 18, 2015 11:07 am

To be very honest, I don't read other ski forums. I'm allergic to ski forums. They're all about self-pride, money, expensive gear and testosterone. Everything I hate.

I don't give a damn of what's going on elsewhere, because as a matter of fact, I know exactly what's going on. It's the same old thing, year after year. Been there, done that. It's all about the weight of the carbon screws in the upcoming 800$ alpine touring binding, 3 times heavier than pins. Or pictures of heli-skiing trips. Or people bragging about how steep they can ski their new 2015 Black Diamond Terawatts on that 3000$ hut-to-hut trip.

Don't you guys think this is all actually really cool?!? Don't you think it's cool that nobody here cares about that shit? Don't you think it's cool that without any guidelines or moderation, nobody is posting heli-skiing pictures here?

After all, it's a good thing that Telemark Talk went away for a while. It just split the crowd in two. The rich alpine touring trust funders babyboomers now have the choice of several different forums to spread their silly stuff and brag about their expensive toys. And passionate telemark and XCD skiers now have Telemark Talk, a forum of their own. A forum by and for anyone who truly believes in Telemark.

I think it's all very clear now. People set their home according to what they believe in. Life's what you make it, and so is a forum. Again, without any moderators, rules, guidelines or incredibly ridiculous "Infraction points", Telemark Talk became, all by itself, focused on the very essence of telemark: Fun, passion, XCD, skiing with friends. No matter if it's steep, or if you need crampons or not. People post pictures of their wives on XCD skis instead of posting selfies with helicopters in the background. People post pictures of their beaten up boots instead of posting pictures of that brand-new 1000$ rando racing boot. Seriously, how cool is that?

TT is not my forum. I don't review gear. I'm not imposing rules. I don't give infractions. I don't write articles. I'm not moderating any content. I don't write about new products. I don't receive free gear. This is not my forum at all, it's yours. It's our forum.

Who knows, maybe I'm Mitch under another name. Or maybe I'm actually Ron in reality, that would explain why nobody gets banned. A few English grammatical errors and hop, the disguise is perfect!

As most of the ski forums out there are mainly focused on discussing and reviewing the brand new expensive made-in-china gear from Black Diamond, Marker and Dynafit, it seems like Telemark Talk became focused on the people. On the very essence of telemark. On passion. Let me close this observation with a quote from a guy named Craig Dostie in the latest issue of Backcountry Magazine. I think it tells a lot.

"For interest in telemark to grow, it will require promoting the essence of telemark, not the gear."

Thanks to all of you for being cool!

Well, we all agree with Mr. Dustie!
Seriously, most us are far more interested in technique than new gear at this point..
I know my old backups can be skied well about anywhere ..but being up to the task is different matter..
Oh, you can't be me LJ; I've decided to be Big Jimbo ..for now..

This is how I felt just before the big WOT collapse..I have a hard time choosing sides in the BIG debates!

Oh, and Mike, that shoutout to me that ya got me from Quad, just awesome!
My powers are intact; I have taken down just the WOT.. for now ..

I agree with all the above I didn't quote, and I'm pretty sure you picked up what I was putting down... but this - even if you were Ron, or Mitch, or Dostie, it's all the same... what I meant was I felt bad giving what you put out there a bad name even if you don't think it's yours. I feel bad for doing that same shit to on Craig's forum, but he already had some pet monsters going all out, so it didn't seem to matter. You carried the torch, you paid for the domain name, you believed in it... you're right, it's up to contributors to make it cool, but it's your vision and I don't want to be the asshole pissing on it.

Couple of thingers....the second girl from the left is the coolest of the cool....WHY.....Second Gear has never been a bigie for any of the Kingdom Tele Boys except for Telewheels who has the biggest, fattest, plastic, crapsicola on the planet....Thinking he is ready for a Teledance race!!!!!!!! Heh,.....Far as to the rest LJ you have two of the baddest boys on Tele websites....And when the site gets slow they slug it out to a draw every time....And it is humorous....have to also say that a guy like Dostie has done good things for the sport of Telemark as did Harrower and his wife....Litz also....Howard and Waskutch....All have been or really into the Telemark or Backcountry....Me I love hearing about fun things in the gonz....people seeing things or feeling the snow up close and personal.....My photo's are about being in the gonz and having a wonderful time....Stops being that and the photo's end....Skiing with these guys at the twilight of my skiing and ya know is lots of fun and sharing it helps my way of getting people back to the basics of skiing....Mountains, hills, FIELDS......AND gonna be GREAT GRANDPA Tele soon....Jeesum! And still getting arcs....Life like Telemark is just plain fun...can hurt at times but we should feel lucky to feel what we do....Teleluck on boys and girls......

No way dude - you just don't know him/her... oh wait, are you messing with me... ahh whatever, who cares...

She is the best lap dog ever. Period.
She is the best boat dog ever. Period. She can jump all over and bark at things and the boat won't even rock - that's 7lbs for ya. But usually she just relaxes.
She is the most socially tight knit dog I have ever come across. She only allows a few people into her circle, everyone else must earn it and it takes time before she will befriend them.
She can dance - duh. It's freaking hilarious.
She makes the most ridiculous noises I've ever heard. No other dog can make them.
Her favorite toy is a burger (that should be self-explanatory):

Image

Yeah so she sucks at hiking but she's easy to pick up and carry when she can't get over rocks.
She gets cold if it's less than like 80 degrees, but whatever, she has sweaters and coats.
She hates snow - oh well, she's a desert rat, not a sled dog.
Her breath smells like dead fish - not really a surprise.
She eats her own poop - what dog doesn't?
Cats can beat her up - it's actually quite entertaining.

And we had someone try to break into our house this fall and she scared them off. Well it might have actually been my wife yelling at her to shut up... but she still sounded the alarm.

Chihuahuas are like skinny skis - they aren't for everyone ;)
