Karhu's new line of XCD skis (2014-2015)

Post by Johnny » Mon Jan 19, 2015 12:55 pm

Am I the only one to be totally stoked about this? Why is anyone talking about it? I thought it would pop up here or elsewhere earlier in the season but it never did. Maybe nobody cares?

Well, it seems like they're back in the ski business. They have 7 new models of backcountry skis. (7 new friends for the Lonely Bear!) It seems like Madshus might still own the copyrights of every designs over 70mm... But hey, those are GREAT skis! Please, buy me a pair!!

I'd really like to try that BearGrip thing. A chemical grip coating? Like, permanent wax? No more fishscales?

You know I saw this on their website about a month back, no idea why I was there but I couldn't tell if these were actually new skis or some leftover thing they had from years past that had never been wiped.

Great to know it's real and they will be making skis again! I'm glad someone is keeping up with the Jones', I can barely keep track of what if out there currently. Thanks for sharing Johnny boy... now who's going to surprise us and start making boots again?

Thanks, do they sell them in the US? From past decades Karhu's were kinda dead compared to Fischers....Heh, karhu should send them to us and we would demo them....heh....for nothing...TM

Yeah I wasn't sure either. But I double checked and it's in their 2015 catalog. But they don't seem to be available anywhere. They sure need a new marketing guy at Karttu.

Guys, did you click on that first picture? The "Hunt Classic" comes in only two size: 230 and 260cm. 260cm!!! That probably makes it the longest ski on the market... (After this one of course:)

260cm eh... and called the 'hunt'... maybe it's so long to provide flotation when you have to carry out that moose you kill!

Well, one thing is sure, "The Hunt" is not for me. I only use vegan/cruelty-free skis.

I know - it's definitely not for you. And I'm pretty sure it would be THE WORST xcd ski ever hahaha.

I wonder if such the length is designed for hunters to keep standing/kneeling position stable on soft snow while they're aiming their targets. Or, the skis are supposed to be used for transporting their games...

I know it's popular in other parts of the world, but I spend my whole winters in the woods and I have yet to see a hunter on XC skis around here... 4-Wheelers and snowmobiles ok, but 260cm Karhu skis? They should bring back the Guides and other XCD skis with cool graphics instead... I don't think they'll get rich if they focus on the hunting crowd for marketing...

They need to hire Ron to market their product. We all know the wonders he's done in promoting the 3 pin cable binding ;)
