Restricted range of motion w/ meidjos
Restricted range of motion w/ meidjos
Hey just switched over to a NTN set up from 75mm. I was skiing 22Design Axl bindings (blew out the metal toe piece) w/ a Crispi XP (3 buckle) boot. I've got a couple days on my new set up. I'm skiing Meidjo 3s with Scarpa TX-Pro boots. I've found that I bottom out the boot/binding a lot, particularly on steeper pitches or bumps. Does anyone have any tips/tricks for increasing range of motion to get the boot/shin past parallel for that 'knee to ski' motion? Or am I resigned to learn to ski more upright? Thanks!

I never skied NTN but from what I've heard it does not do knee to ski very well. I think you are going to have to make adjustments to your style to make it work. When thinking about getting low, get your butt low and keep your knees high and your uphill heel low. If you can make these changes you'll be a better skier.

You're unlikely to get the range of motion on any NTN with Tx Pros that you get on an Axl with 3 buckle boots just as you're not likely to get the range of motion on Axls with 3 buckle boots that you get on an XC set up.
Meidjos may be the closest you'll get, though.
The bellows will break down on the Pros after 20 hours or so, as I recall, so it will improve.
I was out messing around with carving and my knee is probably 3-4" off the ski, but even skiing bumps, I haven't worn knee pads in years.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm sure I'll just get used to the new (tele) normal.

I allways wanted to know what's the advantage of having your knee at or close to your ski?

its the 26.5-27 shell, so pretty average. i was considering trying to adjust the boot cant to a more forward position, but wonder if I'd regret that when standing more upright.

To me, it's absorbing bumbs or changing terrain, etc... like shocks in your car. doesn't feel good to bottom out. I also feel like being lower is a more athletic position with better balance.

And sometimes it just feels really good to get low, zooming over the snow like king shit. I love the feeling of this, the dynamism of it all.
Can you back down the tension on the bindings to get more leverage? (I am not an NTN guy)
