Meidjo inserts, universal?
Meidjo inserts, universal?
I have a prodeal with inwild, and want to use meidjo inserts to mount my fritschi vipecs (not tele I know) on a few pairs of skis. Are all inserts universal?

Re: Meidjo inserts, universal?
AFAIK, the inserts themselves have the same threading internally, with some minor external differences. I have used inserts supplied by Miedjo, Binding Freedom and Quiver Killer. They've all used the same thread, but the length will vary depending on the binding.
Re: Meidjo inserts, universal?
Awesome when you say the length will vary, you mean the screw right? Not the internal thread depth?

Re: Meidjo inserts, universal?
Yes, that's correct. If you go to the Binding Freedom (or quiver killer) site, I think they have screw lengths for different bindings. Even on a particular binding like the Meidjo, different positions on the binding will need different lengths due to binding plate thickness and may have different screw head designs.
Re: Meidjo inserts, universal?
Internal threading on Binding Freedom and Meidjo inserts is the same M5. The external threads on Binding Freedom inserts are 5/16-18 whereas I am pretty sure external threading on Meidjo inserts is M8. The hole diameters are almost the same but you would need to use a different taps.

Re: Meidjo inserts, universal?
If you’re interested, these two vendors have the Meidjo insert kits, which include all the necessary bolts, in stock:
https://cripplecreekbc.com/products/ins ... meidjo-2-1
https://aspinockwoods.com/shop/ols/prod ... insert-kit
I liked the Meidjo inserts because they come with all the bolts, which means I could be lazy and not have to figure out which bolts to buy.
Like @Montana St Alum said earlier, the Meidjo insert outside thread pitch (M8 / metric) is slightly different that the pitch on the two US products (5/16X18 Thread Pitch).
I bought them from Meidjo, in France, because I also needed all the insert tools.

What they sell is sort of fiddly to work with, but it does a good job of getting the inserts in straight and has a stop at the correct installation depth.
Sorry, I missed the part about Prodeal with Inwild.
Then, yeah, go for their stuff — although, for the $$ involved, there can’t be much difference in cost between Inwild and, say, Binding Fredom?
For inserts, and the tools to install, maybe the best bet is just get it all from:
https://www.bindingfreedom.com/
Then you have to figure out the bolts…

EDIT:
I talked to one ski tech who said they use the same tap for both thread pitches. The inserts are short and the ski core material is a bit forgiving, so I guess it works. Ideally, match the tap to the insert threads.leon wrote: ↑Thu Nov 10, 2022 10:27 pmInternal threading on Binding Freedom and Meidjo inserts is the same M5.
