I failed to mention, as a reminder, the Fischer Transnordic 82 Easy Skin Xtralite has a smooth base, with no fishscales.

I have been backcountry skiing for years using several AT set-ups including some with the fishscale bottoms (Voile Objective BC), but now I am looking at some ultra distance tours on groomed tracks (groomed for snowmobile tracks usually) and looking for a metal edge nordic ski.
My question is this:
1) With a ski like Fischer Transnordic 82 Easy Skin Xtralite (a ski with smooth base, no fishscales), with their special "mini skin" installed, can one make turns with that in place? Or is a fishscale ski better in rolling terrain when there might be some wide turns needed?
2) When traveling over rolling terrain on a packed down snowmobile track (and sometimes off in unpacked snow), is that skin option more efficient than the "Crown" fishscale-bottom skis?

In my experience, the waxless base glides much better than with an ez skin, and the skins can be a bit grabby on a descent, making descending and turning with them on a bit tricky.

The ez skins are great for climbing in crusty conditions or unconsolidated cold fresh snow, where the scales are slipping. A little bit of wax in front of your scales can help out in those situations too, and of course, plain, waxable bases can be customized to given conditions, but will require some experimentation.

The TN82 doesn't have much of a following here. People tend to get either the Sbounds for the mountains, or the T78 or E88's for xc

Cross-country AND down-hill skiing in the backcountry.
Unashamed to be a "cross-country type" and love skiing down-hill.

I too am interested in actual user reports on the new TN82.
The last reviews I saw of the TransNordic 82, which were here on Telemark Talk a few years ago, but I don't believe the ski has changed much since, suggest that the TransNordic 82 gets unstable in deep, soft snow, due to its soft tip.

Videos I see online suggest the TransNordic 82 is used mostly as a spring skiing snow in Scandinavia, to get nice turns going down wide open slopes in spring conditions. Awesome ski for getting turns in spring mash.

For skiing in deep, soft midwinter snow, in the same width class, the Asnes ingstad, Fischer Traverse 78, Alpina Discovery 80, and Madshus Eon/M62 could all be better.
