removing ezskins on the fly

Does anyone have any tips or tricks for removing ezskins WITHOUT taking the skis off? With full length skins, it's easy to remove the skins without having to remove the ski first. I've yet to find a smooth and effective way to do this with ezskins: In deep snow, it's a pain to 1. take off ski. 2. remove ezskin. 3. put ski back on. 4. repeat. In packed firm snow its not a big deal but in deep powder, it can downright suck to try to keep the snow from mucking up the process. Anyone have any tips for a clumsy guy?

Good luck, but an X-skin is a tough one to rip with skis mounted.

Sorry Fish, didn't mean to rub your face in the snow so to speak...I feel your pain. It's been a weird warm season so far but at least there's deep snow!

Can't you just lift one leg up and over to the side, over the other ski, and reach the snakebite attachment point? I did this same maneuver today to wipe accumulated snow from the pocket when standing around a while. Maybe it requires some flexibility. But its a pretty natural motion, could try it with just boots on and make like you want to see the sole of your boot in front of you.

The EZ Skin lock is the trouble spot. Especially if it gets packed with snow and ices up. I usually just stomp out an area pop off / on ski one at a time. Tree Pose helps to learn one leg balance.

Or a one leg Chair Pose…. If you have really long arms

NOTE! The foot is ABOVE the knee, NOT on nor below.

Was doing yoga at the climbing gym once, and you'd have thought our instructor was the reincarnation of R. Lee Ermey whenever she saw someone put the foot ON their knee for Tree Pose!


She did take my request for her to demonstrate a "Double Tree Pose" in stride though. Said that one has stymied her to date.

The same way you apply wax without taking your skis off.........go skiing with a companion.

I wouldn't do it with a Buddhist though - they consider it very bad manners to point the soles of your feet at anyone.

I find it easiest to leave your skis and poles all over the run before attempting.

Thanks for the responses. Those videos were interesting in the sense that those guys have some pretty clever methods of skin removal. The yoga moves are appreciated. My gf has been pushing yoga on me for a while now. If I had any sense, I would stop ignoring that advice. The trouble spot is indeed the frozen lock. Pulling the skin is a wobbly yet possible affair, while fiddling with the lock is nearly impossible for me, especially if I have to go back and forth between fiddling with the lock on top of the ski and ungluing from the ski base to get the lock to release a few times. Improved balance would help a great deal I suspect. Thanks!
