Night Ski Photos
Re: Night Ski Photos
"Peak"ing out of the woods before the rest being downhill.
Winter's hunter, Orion. You can spot three aircraft.
Looking towards the end trail head near I-70.

Took some pics of the aurora the other night. I only have like a foot tall tripod which makes it too much of a pain to try and frame shots or anything so this is the best I got.

I don't know if you have a time lapse option, or can do a video then edit afterwards, but a .gif or such would be really cool! There are also online .gif converters, compressors, etc.
If this is near you or a parking lot, you could always haul something out to put the tripod on to frame as you like, and a car would give you place to duck out of the cold.
I posted this earlier in this thread, and you can see my breath wafting up into the night air to look at Orion when I stopped on a ski trail.

Re: Night Ski Photos
Well, I am at the mercy of the sun and that was the biggest solar storm in six years so I don't know when the next opportunity will be for aurora as good as that (tho a week or three prior to that was also good, and solar activity should rise for the next two years). But also I am just using my phone's camera, I am not sure video will be any good, but I'll give it a try next time.

Nice Tom, I hope you made some night turns.
Re: Night Ski Photos
Fishscaled up Kendall Mountain ski area (200+ feet) in Silverton, CO around 8pm Friday on the thrift store Rossi's I epoxied. No slip on way up, but lots of snow sticking to scales. So at top I scraped it off with the cap and applied liquid wax to bases the skied down after some photos. Took a bit to find good settings. Sorry for blur. Phone was resting on knee and kept as still as I could for 10sec exposures.
View from top. Skis with top of lift in background. Followed the lift towers up more or less. Long exposure. Note the streaks of light in lower left from vehicles leaving the Kendall Mountain Community Center. Took the blue route down.
