finding the best line??

Post by blitzskier » Mon Sep 16, 2024 2:10 pm

in regards to scoping out a new mountain from peak to base or base to peak.. Are there any tips out there on cutting a new path for xcd line? what about safety measures, non-avalanche related dangers?

i'm thinking about purchasing this guys book , he seems to have done some research on his local hills.

For me weather is always the biggest factor. It'll determine which aspects will hold skiable snow. Different terrains can preserve snow better than others. Trees, gullies, chutes, glades etc. Youll see wind and sun effects that will make an otherwise perfect line unskiable. Local nordic, backcountry, and AT skiing Facebook groups can be a huge help when looking for localized BC conditions. I know you don't do social media Blitz, maybe just get a burner account for Facebook groups. Or use weather sites like mountain weather and wix etc
