Hey Theme- I come in around #220 so I don’t have difficulty keeping the ball of my foot down with any boot 🤣.

I just put on both boots you’d mentioned. The Pi Tech does flex/keeps the foot down considerably easier. I found it very supportive and was really pleased with the way it could drive different skis (it became a favourite when I was on the Metsäs). It feels lighter and less bulky than the Fischer. Its also easier (in my case anyway) to keep the heel locked in.

The Traverse is also supportive. Keeping the ball of the foot down is easy for me- the flex feels like its not as smooth as the Pi Tech. I have to work the laces a bit more to stop the heel from moving around (gonna try a different insole this year). Its my go to boot when temperatures are getting Swix Polar cold and it’s windy out. I wore these boots on a 20+ mile tour on the Green Man you found me- they were great for driving the ski breaking trail. It has that same finish that the other Fischer boots have. Still want to give them a go with a bigger ski (like the BC120) on a powder day.

I have had these Fischer BCX Traverse boots for about 10 months now (got them late last season). I use them with S-Bound 98 skis. I love the setup. The boots are super sturdy, very warm and generally surprisingly comfy (though a bit narrow at the toe box for me). They almost feel nearly like plastic boots in terms of control, which I like, while not being as stiff.

However, I'm sorry to report the boots might not be so well-made. I only have gotten a few opportunities to use them so far (3 or 4 times going on easy cross-country on some mostly flat ungroomed trails, and just twice practicing my telemark turns on some groomed downhill slopes). The second time I took them out to go downhill the bottom inside speed-hook on the right boot sheared clean off (see photo). Other than that I've been enjoying using them, but I found that failure pretty disappointing. I suppose that eyelet gets a good amount of torque when you're bending deep, but I would have hoped it would be designed to withstand it.

Something else to keep an eye on I guess. Noticed a variety of different speed hooks available on Amazon, hopefully something there works for you.

@Inspiredcapers how do you think the flex of the sole is on the Fischer boots? Is it hard to keep the ball of foot down?

How significant is the support difference between these and the Pi Tech?

Got myself the Rabb 68 and instantly started looking for a stiffer boot too :D

Is the leather painted/coated like in previous versions of the boot?

Neither the Crispi or Alfa fit me so maybe Fischer is the way to go
What is your weather like in Finland right now? At my friend's farm in Trondelag his snow level went from 120 to 50 in three weeks time.

Winter had a slow start... took until late January for any significant snow. In the north ofc much more. I think it will be quite stable now, but I am aware of the snow situation in Norway... also sucky in the north, there is a couple skiing down from Nordkapp that get the worst of it.

Finally getting downhill depth near Ruka as well. I am heading out to ski from Naruska, Salla towards the Swedish border soon, with much more snow in this area. 300 cm skis FTW!

End of the month I am skiing in Trondelag for 15 days then recuperating on the Hurtigruten then skiing in Vindelfjall in Sweden- that is a real nice region. I know a Norwegian couple who ski every Mayday in the Vindalfjall. About six years ago I skied from Lonsdal Norway to Hemavan through the Vindel nature reserve. I finished on 15 May with just about 24 hr, sun and it was still snowing like crazy when I flew out of Hemavan on the 15th.

I am a bit worried about the Trondelag trip and the snow depth and quality...

Getting your forest-skis out? I wanted to buy a pair last time in Finland (Ivalo) but not sure the airlines will take them.
