I hate seeing beautiful stuff like this, I momentarily think “I’ll make something like this,” then realize, no, I won’t.

Now this I can relate to!

I've always told people that an assortment of sledge hammers and several mammal paws are the critical components of a well rounded ski tech's kit.
Thanks for noticing Smitty but the hammers aren't specific to ski tuning. I keep them handy on all my jobs, as I like to hit things whenever possible. The mammal paws are rabbits' feet that I've found while skiing, and since waxing is more art than science I keep them around for luck.
I better go find some rabbit feet cuz I need all the luck I can get.

I’ve devolved to using a canvas drop cloth instead of a bench. These are all of the tools I might need to get the job done. A4E60DD2-F658-4DDF-809A-6801B1E8227C.jpeg
Lots of nifty items there. Ok you got me, what phase of the waxing/repairs do the sledge hammers, axe and hard hat come into operation LOL

Hello all, here is the contraption I came up with back in the winter of '08 during the economic slowdown. Grabbed some Baltic birch plywood and some maple boards and headed to my friend's cabinet shop in Washburn WI. We came up with two prototypes, this is one of them. We came to the conclusion that we couldn't make any money on them, but I've been using this one since. The "harp" that you clip the bindings to moves up and down with a screw mechanism to hold the ski in place. The two ski supports slide to accommodate any size Nordic ski. Works great, but I will be adding pads to the supports to better hold the bigger BC skis I have now.
Right here I'm putting some green glide on my wife's M50's and a little skin prep. Going to grab a bite up the shore and then ski the Northwoods Trail in Silver Bay, MN this afternoon.
Very nice, simple and gets the job done on too skis at once !

Nicely executed. Reminds me of my Dad's boat building handy work.

Thanks it was fun to make and I've been using one of the prototypes for probably around 15 years.

My used and abused scrap wood quickies. The long one is for the 270 Metsa, the shorter one is for 200-210 XC skis. Gotta make another one for wider n’ shorter, likely make it adjustable to fit the different skis I’ve got that range from 177 (Ferreol Zigzag) to 195 (Scott Megadozer). Likely make them a little wider (2.5” instead of 1.5”). Just set them on a couple of sawhorses and use a small bungee on the binding to hold them in place. Yes, theres a lot of dripped wax showing from the days I dripped wax on, got a little smarter and learned to smear/crayon it on now. Funny how I get waaay more skis waxed out of a bar now…
