Unpimp das Auto
Re: Unpimp das Auto
I wish I had some pictures but I've raced cars on snow, ice, dirt and asphalt FWD, RWD and AWD.
If you like the truck, stick with it. But put me on snowy pavement or a dirt road in a short wheelbase FWD or AWD with good tires and I'll see you at the finish line

Re: Unpimp das Auto
Short skis turn fast too..but..You can turn 'em around pretty damned fast and watch the back pass the front .. Snowing here this am and I can bet you the ditches are gonna fill up with little AWD's..

Ahh... they don't know how to drive them. I like when the rear end comes around, just have to know how to catch it!

What all vehicles need is ? Counter rotation!

Re: Unpimp das Auto
They have it now. It's called active stability management or various other trade names.
A friend of mine tracks his Mustang and he says it's like the hand of God comes down and intervenes when you fuck up... but only when it gets really out of shape. He claims he doesn't notice any other time.
It still won't keep you out of the wall, but it helps you from losing the back end in a 100+ mph sweeper.

Re: Unpimp das Auto
I have no idea how well it really works. 'Puters are pretty fast at calculating though as long as they do the right ones and the sensors tell them the right info.
Pretty soon you aren't going to be able to get a vehicle without this kind of stuff, like it or not.

Re: Unpimp das Auto
Had a Rav4..it did a great job of telling you WHEN you were sliding..just an annoyance..
BTW modified rear wheel D is still pretty much the racing norm..not front

Re: Unpimp das Auto
Ravs used to be real turds. I'm told they are much better now.
My friend has a newer one and we plan on skiing with her this year. We'll see if I have to pull her out of a snowbank!
I reality all these light duty CUV/SUV thingies are really not much tougher than a sedan. Just two more wheels driving and a little more ground clearance. It works well for us who live in cities but want/need to get out in the mountains. Maybe some day they'll bring back trains and I wont have to drive.
Like I say, if I lived in the boonies like I used to I'd probably be driving an old truck

Re: Unpimp das Auto
Depends. You won't find any FWD kartsRaventele wrote:BTW modified rear wheel D is still pretty much the racing norm..not front
For rally the norm is actually FWD and AWD these days although on an amateur level you'll see a RWD or two. Sports cars are a mix but some clubs don't allow AWD cars to compete.
I prefer the engine mid-ship and the rear wheels driving - that's really a proper racing layout for a road course but over the years many things have been made to work. Karts and formula cars are ideal for the track and they follow that layout.
