For appropriate terrain to do that drill Lo Fi mentioned think magic carpet, like he said, green runs may be too steep.

You have better skis to learn on. There is no benefit in trying to learn on the hardest gear to turn. A single camber ski will turn with a lot less input than the karhus do, so there is less to learn.

Yep, that's what it's like for me on trafficked BC trails.

Wait! Jeans! ' That ' is what I'm missing, right? I mean, what's a pom-pom hat without jeans? Open to more wardrobe suggestions while I'm in the closet...

:D

Here's a video of getting used to these at Monarch
Do the skis really have that stiff double cambers? Based on the beginning of the video, it looks to me that the skis tend to turn more easily than to track.

I used to have a pair of old foam core Karhus, which had lost their second cambers. Could that be a case here, too. Are the skis a foam core model?

The video skiing looks like a ”tall stance” telemark turn might not be that far away. Maybe ”dropping a knee” sounds like a bigger movement than it needs to be. Finding the feel of having rear foot pressure on ball of foot could be enough to make the turns telemark.

Also, soft snow could make practising easier. Personally on hard snow, I am afraid of gaining so much speed that I no longer can initiate a turn safely (skiing Gammes). Then I would be soon out of good options. I guess I still need to improve my rear ski pressuring for hard snow.

I think I'm going to have to play with this next time out. Perhaps it might be of use to others.
The next step in the progression was to do the same tele
shuffle in a moving straight run. This is best done on a
very slight slope on which you have no desire or need to
turn. Again, the focus was to bounce slightly with each
shuffle and to land predominantly on the back foot. Having
attempted and failed at this drill before, I think it also
easier to get a hang of this without poles, as you are
free to concentrate on the foot work without worrying about
the pole plant which can be added in later.
