Cross-country AND down-hill skiing in the backcountry.
Unashamed to be a "cross-country type" and love skiing down-hill.

Re: Sbound 98s or 112s
Resurrecting old post. I have the Sbound 98 with Xplore bindings and Fischer Traverse boots. I really like the ski but when I try doing turns on softer deep snow they submarine and I get the faceplant feeling. Would the 112 offer much more float and can my binding combo/boots handle that width?
I’m very tempted to buy the 112s but on deep days I usually take my Voile Ultravectors out. So not sure how much use the 112s would even get? I’m in Wyoming by the way. I’m half tempted to get the Voile Endeavors instead of spending money on the 112s. I’d be running TTS with the Endeavors.

Re: Sbound 98s or 112s
I’ve had the SB98s and definitely felt the bogged down and hung up feeling in deep snow. Used with plastic boots. These days my XC BC trail skis are the SB 112 with Switchbacks and T4s. It does seem much nicer in deep snow eg trail breaking vs the SB98. However I also have Vector BCs, so much better for downhill turning. Of course a bit more ponderous and don’t track so straight on trail, but I’ve timed myself and they do well for speed and mileage vs more XC oriented rigs, surprisingly.voilenerd wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 7:51 amResurrecting old post. Anyways I think the Ultravector BC are your ticket for turns anyhow. SB112 would be nice for mileage and trail breaking with their lovely width and higher camber with the groove down the middle. Voile all the way for turns though.
