The coolest place in NY (xc skiing)

This weekend is shaping up to be prime time to enjoy one of the finest xc establishments in the state. It's groomed, it's tracked but it's BIG and it's FREE! It's actually so big there are three locations, two of which are about as big or bigger than a typical xc center. The only restrictions are:

No Motorized Vehicles
Ski At Your Own Risk
Ski In A Manner That Does Not Endanger Others
Snowshoers Please Stay To The Side Of Ski Tracks
No Pedestrians On Ski Trails In Winter
No Skate Skiing (apparently the donors didn't like spandex)
No Towed Sleds
No Hunting
No Dogs In Winter (no problem for our dog, she hates snow)



I'm always yammering on about this place, and always trying to get new people to go because it's such a gem. I'm taking a new friend this weekend and I'm excited.

BREIA is a not-for-profit corporation funded by a private family foundation, as a gift to the people of New York. Access to the trails and facilities is free, and donations are never accepted. The trails remain open throughout the year, and offer hiking and biking opportunities during the warm seasons.

And even if you don't have your own skis or just want to try, you can borrow them from Boonville Search and Rescue:

BREIA does not rent equipment. You can rent skis and snowshoes at the Boonville Search and Rescue hut located at the far right side of the Tops Plaza on Route 12 in Boonville. Warming Hut will be open from 10 am - 4 pm Saturday and Sunday. Your driver's license is required as a deposit and a $5 donation to Search and Rescue is greatly appreciated.
