Madshus Eon + Voile 3 pin cable + Scarpa T2 (old blue ones) = Good Idea? Where to mount?
I have a pair of fishscale Madshus Eon 185s mounted with NNN BC Magnums that I've been using with Alpina Alaskas, mostly for XCD and XC backcountry purposes. A couple years back I got a pair of Asnes Nansen Waxables that have pretty much replaced the Eons for XCBC and mostly for XCD as well.
My heavier setup is currently Voile Ultravector BCs + Voile Switchback X2 + old blue Scarpa T2s. I LOVE this setup for lapping local downhill spots, and it can handle basically any conditions steepness / snow quality wise.
But now I'm thinking it might be nice to have a similar downhill oriented setup but a bit lighter (skis and bindings anyway) for mellower / softer conditions.
I have a pair of Voile 3-pin cable bindings that I bought and never mounted and so I'd like to put them on the Eons. While I enjoy the challenge of skiing the Eons downhill with the NNNBC Alaskas, I think it would be more fun / versatile setup with a beefier boot/binding combo.
Anyone have experience with this setup?
Any tips for unmounting the current NNN BC Magnums? (I guess I should fill the holes with epoxy?)
Also I guess I should mount the Voile 3-pins at balance point?

The boot is a mis-match, but it’s the boot you have. There are plastic plugs guys use. I have used straight epoxy, but you need to work out the air holes. I have also used hardwood dowels and waterproof glue.
Good luck, you have nothing to loose except some time, and a couple extra holes in a ski you don’t use.
I think it would be much more enjoyable if you can find some used stiffer leather boots. You are used to touring in T-2’s though.

Yep I realize it’s too much boot, and yeah I’ve been looking for a pair of lighter ones but they’re hard to come by. I wouldn’t say I’m used to touring with them, more doing up / down laps. For more rolling terrain I’d take Alaskas + Nansens any day.
Thanks for the dowel idea!

The traditional Tele 75mm mount on a that ski geometry would be pins on chord center-
arbitrary- yes- but it should give you a better downhill mount than pins on balance point.
The holes?
Wood-cored ski-
I would line the old hole with polyurethane glue;
fill the hole with a wooden dowel;
seal the top with epoxy.
Let us how you make out with this-
I will be interested in hearing your experience with a boot like the T2 on a ski like the Eon!
Best,
Gareth

I use both, depending on the hole clearance relative to the new set. My preference is the wooden plugs, if I have enough on hand. I clean out the old holes, rasp the topsheet down if there's any volcanoeing, spread a drop of epoxy in the hole and tap in the plug, then clean up the top sheet.

I rolled my t-1s on guides while teaching my kids to dh ski. Great combo. Toured with them too when I knew snow was bad or steep. Binder was an ole tele lite dog 3- pin, no cable.
So go for it! Depending on terrain could be perfect.

Update:
Last weekend I went XC skiing at one of my favourite spots about an hour away from home. Along the way I realized I'd forgotten to bring my wax kit, so I stopped at a nearby shop to pick up some wax. And what do you know, they had 2 pairs of Fischer Transnordic 75s, in my size, and on sale!
So I mounted the Voile 3pins on the Eons (about 2ish cm in front of the balance point, mostly so I could reuse one of the NNNBC holes) and took them out tonight with the Transnordics. Wow!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxvpOmszMB4
I'd previously done quite a bit of XCD with NNN BC Alaskas, and while it's not as drastic a difference as going to plastic boots, I definitely felt more control over the ski, especially laterally. There's just less slop and I feel like the skis are more responsive to my movements and so I can make adjustments more quickly.
There's still quite a bit of forward flex both in the boot and in the sole so I still had to focus on the balls of my feet. But overall I definitely preferred the 3pin setup over NNN BC for downhill. I think I'm going to like this setup a lot...
Now I'm thinking of ditching NNN BC on my Nansens for an even better downhill-focused setup and getting a pair of narrower / straighter skis for NNNBC touring...

@montrealer
Cool!
Thank you for the update!
What binding did you mount?
That Transnordic boot is quite the boot- a lot more suppport/leverage than the Alaska.
I had that boot briefly, but it was too hard on my foot.
Cool that it works for you!

Mounted the Voile 3pin cable as planned, just the boots that changed. And yeah the boots seem more supportive than the Alaskas, but I’d say closer to the Alaskas than say my T2s.
I did a bit of kick and glide on the way to the hill and I think if I was touring for a while I would loosen the upper laces for more give.
