Old S Bound series

Post by MikeK » Thu Feb 11, 2016 8:44 pm

Seen as how it came up on the other thread...

Does anyone have ANY info on the old S Bounds?

How many were there?

I know there was a Rebound, Outtabounds and Boundless. Any others?

Found it!
http://www.xcskiforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=2135
Outbound: 70/60/65
Snowbound: 77/61/69 -> superseded by S-Bound 78 (78/61/69)
Rebound: 88/60/78 -> superseded by S-Bound 88
Outtabounds: 88/68/78
Boundless: 98/69/88 -> superseded by S-Bound 98
Except we know the Outtabound became the S Bound 88, not the Rebound.

I had an sbound outbound crown from about 15 years ago. It was the ski that turned me off to the fischer xcd line. They had a negative pattern in the base and they didn't climb at all and had a poor kick in the best conditions. The double camber was so stiff it was hard to get enough weight on the ski to turn it. Don't buy em, I have a pair you can have for free.

AFAIK the new Fischers are quite superior to these.

They did make some of these is wax versions though, which might not actually be bad skis.

I've read a lot of complaints about the older versions. Mostly due to the scales, but also the funky sidecut/camber combinations. I've read the Boundless was really soft, alpine style camber....

Yeah I read that too.

And the I read the Rebound had a ton of camber with that really high amount of sidecut.

It looks like they dropped the funky ones and continued the more traditional ones. Also maybe added some stiffness and camber to the 98 (which now many people seem to complain about).

Could the Boundless have been softer than the 10th Mountain? I'm guessing they were as that was the most obvious ski to compare with at the time...

I've also read the 10th Mtn used to be stiffer and more cambered than it is now.

Right now I measure the same camber height on the Eon and the Epoch. I haven't bothered to put weights on them (mainly because I have different lengths), but they feel like very similar stiffness.

So maybe Fischer went stiffer and Madshus went softer from the previous gens?

There are SOOO many version of the 10th Mtn out there. Mine are 84-68-74 and relatively stiff, some older ones are even narrower. They were based or were an Army ski at one time I think. They went up to 98mm at the tip before they became the Epoch, right? I can't think of any other XCD ski that had so many re-incarnations. So yeah, they ended up softer, wider and with more sidecut.

XCD-GT to Eon. Tons of variations too. I think the oldest ones were more like a Glittertind or old E99.
