Telebry Release plates

What's the opinion on using Telebry Release plates with Voile cable bindings, anyone have any experience with them?

A friend uses them with Voile Switchback X2s. I don't know if he's ever released, but he's a huge fan of the plates, despite the weight penalty they bring.

Those X2's are for Downhill powder aren't they, are release plates mostly for Downhill or would they be useful for touring long distance, I guess as much tumbling as a newbie like me would do they might be handy, lol

Release plates are definitely for dh. Unlikely to even release at low speeds although you certainly can hurt yourself like that if you get twisted up the wrong way.

Only you can decide if they are right for you, but I've never used any kind of release for touring or yo-yo skiing.

I'd consider something like this perhaps if I were skiing high speed at resorts or BC steeps... although, some people are of the mind they don't want to pre-release, or release at all on no fall kind of terrain.

When I skied Alpine, I always skied my bindings at a low release setting. I could get them to pre-release if I skied like an idiot. If I skied smooth they were fine.

I'll be in the Wind River range again next winter, I'm sure I'll have plenty of open ground to cover, but also some very rough and mountainous rocky terrain, probably have to switch between skis and snowshoes at times, I'm not planning on skiing couliers but it's wooded in areas, a bunch of lakes, etc should be interesting.

Do you know how they work? There is a single pivot that attach the plate to the release unit; it sits into three cones... A single pivot; nobody talks about that. All the release (Voile, 7Tm) have at least 2 anchor points... I bought a pair... used. There was a little wiggle mouvement. I sent it to the maker—a very nice guy... he changed some pieces, add some shims... Wiggle, wiggle. How can it not be? Once I put a boot in the binding and that I pry, the plate moves. Well, Check it for yourself... Unless, unless, you crank the resistance up; then you won't release... All I know is the experience I had with them. If you like precision, then... well...

Rodbelan, I have them but I haven't mounted them as of yet, I'm debating on Wether I'll need them or not.

What is the set up? binding, boots & skis?

Well, I've got some of those USGI surplus Asnes skis waxable and some Madshus epoch skis waxless, no bindings mounted but I've got the Voile hardwire and some Voile 3 pin Traverse bindings, one pair of Garment Excursion boots and a pair of Fischer BCX675 boots.
