A little update: Asnes recommend using Pomoca and Colltex silicon skin wax to make them even faster...

They also suggest trying to order from Norseman and LaCordee even though they don't actually carry the 35mm skins in store. They should be able to order them now...

I guess they are almost as hard to find as the skins themselves...

LaCordee and Backcountry.com are carrying Pomoca products, so maybe its possible to order from them... No idea about Colltex... But please let me know if you find some and wanna make a group order...

I was chatting to my granddaughter, who is in the BC cross country development program. I mentioned the Fischer skins and she said one of her compatriots had tried the Easyskins on a pair and found that snow built up in the connection hole when using wax and spread into the grip area. Now this is British Columbia where the skiing is at temperatures around 0 degrees Celsius so possibly it wouldn't be an issue in colder climes.

I use the Nylon skin for steep climbs and in wet conditions and the Mohair for flat and moderate terrain. Usually I use Mohair in cold conditions/new snow – this is the best conditions for mohair. I also cut the skin and adapting it to my weight. On the Nansen/Cecilie I would recommend you to cut the skin approximately 5 cm in front of your heel.

Try it out, you will be surprised how well it perform with a shorter skin.

That was suggested by others here to me after my frighteningly non-glidey experience with the nylon skin locks last year. I'll have to give it a try.

thanks LJ, this is a great review, sounds excellent. A replacement for fishscales for my Asnes skis is exactly what I need! I got the 45mm mohair, will have to ask Neptune about getting the 35mm. Uh-oh, it looks like Neptune did not restock Asnes this year! hope it's not the end.

I would think the narrow mohair ones are for kick & glide on spring snow or ice and the wider nylon ones are climbing skins. I like the small size and weight of these compared to full-length BD skins, so easy to throw these in your pack as backup for wax or a steep climb, etc.

it would be great to just order 35mm mohair every year or two instead of needing separate fishscales skis or god forbid, klister.......sign me up for the group order!!!

Also, what about this BD product for skin wax? Says water-based, made with Nikwax, not sure what that means:

PPS...it aint' cheap but here is the Colltex skin wax in the US....btw Swix F4 works too....
