All my racing skis always come with plates. (I don't believe in "telemark" skis... To me, the only real skis are alpine racing skis!)

While I heard some people do mount their bindings over the racing plates, I find it's much easier to simply remove the plates and mount straight into the ski. Add some risers according to taste/bindings...

I am not trying to hijack the thread, but I have a question on race skis also that LJ can probably answer. I had a pair of Stockli SLs but I just swithched to NTN and the Stocklis have too many sets of holes in them. So, I am thinking of another pair of SLs or a cheater GS ski, any favorites or recommendations?

Hey JFR,

You shouldn't care much about holes... Just fill them with plugs & epoxy. Worst case scenario you'll end up breaking them in the spring bumps like I do every season... (Aaaahhhh! GS skis in the bumps, I love it!! : )

I use those cheap and cool plugs from Tognar:

It seems like 80% of the racing teams here use Rossignol skis, so this is pretty much what I get from ski swaps year after year. 9X and 9S... They are such great skis. From time to time I get my hands on Fischers and Salomons. I always have one pair of GS and one pair of SL mounted on NTN.

I wanted something in between this year, something between 21m and 13m. So I got my hands on Dynastar Contacts @ 16m. The radius is really cool, exactly what I was looking for. But I miss the stiffness of racing skis a lot.

Thanks LJ,

I have always mounted my 75mm bindings myself but have taken my NTNs to a shop. It was the shop that said they could not mount the bindings. I have a 2nd ski kit, so I will give it a go on my own. I am not a big guy, 155lbs, so that is why I am leaning towards a cheater GS ski (16-19mm radius) rather than an FIS 23-27mm ski.

Thanks again
