you ever seen one of those threads titled "How to make Telemark Skiing more popular"? ...this is the exact opposite of that thread. .. "How to make telemark skiing sound insanely complex and basically impossible short of a theoretical computer simulation"....
Maybe not all threads are for all skiers. Not all are to “generate stoke”.

I cannot think of a more vapid stereotype than a surfer dude. Hang out, watch videos of people getting tubed, hit the hash pipe, and do it all over again. For decades.

Surfers aren’t like that in real life though. Sure, some like getting tubed and stoned. The good ones try hard to elevate their game. Crazy as it sounds, there will be a lot of discussion on physics. Not graduate level, but dropping Bernoulli’s name won’t cause a revolt like Newton’s has here.

Before committing seriously to any sport, you have to believe in what you’re doing. That way, you try again if you fail… because you believe in what you’re doing.

A discussion on how things work or why things work can be useful. It can reinforce some beliefs and challenge others. Either way, it is a form of mental engagement that is really important in performance sports.

It’s only a boner killer to those who fail to see the opportunity.

Would I want to sit around all day when there are great conditions to be skied? Nope. But if you’re online, it’s a sign you’re either worn out from a session or the conditions have turned to shite. Either way, you’re online man.
We dreamed of riding waves of air, water, snow, and energy for centuries. When the conditions were right, the things we needed to achieve this came into being. Every idea man has ever had up to that point about time and space were changed. And it keeps on changing whenever we dream. Bio mechanical jazz, man.

Hi, I'm here now. I took a few days offline over the New Year to hammer my knuckles with an aluminium meat tenderiser hammer (personal science project).

This thread looks really interesting and I would like to contribute, could someone recap the principal arguments

To me it seems like we agree on everything except for vocabulary and other details. And we're all accusing the others of disagreeing.
Happy new year!

To fully understand this thread you need to go to the "Explore vs. 3 pin w/cabls thread" and read through it.

I made a YouTube summarizing it. BLUF… you had it easy with the meat tenderizer.

I have far more complicated things to think about. Skiing Nordic efficiently( and quickly), whether skate or classic, is infinitely more challenging than executing a solid tele turn. Tele is what you do when you don't want to think. but I guess I started young, and I once heard that the only way to speak tele without an accent is to have learned as a child...so there I was. I also learned Skate and Classic as a kid....then took 35 years off from the sport of Nordic...now that I am back into Nordic, I can confirm that it is orders of magnitude easier *for me* to ski tele well than it is for me skate or ski classic well...the nuances of Nordic are off the chart compared to Tele( but again, I fell in the Tele cauldron as a child, and was permanently affected)

I just don't think you took your tele as seriously as you do your competition sports.

oh I did ! using the best of 1980;s resources. I had the "back country ski books" filled with wooden skis and leather boots...thats what was available. just a few years ago I found a yellowed 4x6 note card that I would carry in the pocket of my ski jacket when I was 15yo. it was a top 10 list of things to remember when executing a tele turn. I recall to this day studying that little note card on the chair lift. I was for sure a student of the sport. I built my own Frankenboots( because I couldn't afford SuperComps). I was also a ski jumper and landing in a telemark stance meant everything point-wise. but my teenage ambition on tele skis was to ski as well or better than alpine skiers in bumps and other lift served trails. but to your point, I competed( and still do) in lots of forms of skiing, just not tele( mainly because I've never heard of a tele race nearby...if there was one nearby, I would have no choice but to enter). that said, the draw to the dark side called Endurance Sports is far stronger in me that the draw to pure gravity sports
