Removing Kick Wax from Fabric?

Post by TallGrass » Tue Apr 11, 2023 10:35 am

Was warm yesterday and tried the softest (V50) kick wax on my Karhu Kodiaks. When they wouldn't grip, I then A-Framed them on my Flash 22L pack. The kick wax rubbed off on the sides, water bottle pockets (mesh), and brain. :(

It's nylon so low heat. I'm thinking lay TP over it flat, then low heat iron to melt it into TP. What then? Laundry cycle with a little extra detergent? Just try and wipe and wear it off? As you can imagine, it's a dust, dirt and lint magnet.

Chide me all you want, but hey, at least it wasn't klister.

TIA!

I have a few suggestions:
1) Put the gear in a deep freezer, or a regular fridge freezer if you have the room, leave it overnight. Take it out and immediately scrape off what you can, with a cold scraper. The wax might even peel and flake off if you get can get it really cold. Repeat the procedure as needed.
2) A warm but not hot iron, or a hair dryer, might work if you layer the stain between paper bags or clean newsprint, but it is more likely to just spread out the wax into the weave of the fabric.
2)Try using Goo Gone on the fabrics, but do a test first. The label says it is safe for most fabrics but may discolor a bit.
Certainly have plenty of paper towels or cotton rags to soak it up.
Best of luck, what ever remains will add character to the pack.
