Rivets for Skins: Where to Find

I put together a few sets of skins last year and want to make an adjustment to one set. As long as we have no snow I might as well correct a few things that, while not critical, have been bugging me. I can easily drill out the rivets that came with the Colltex ends, and reuse the ends, but I'm not sure what rivets to go with. I've not seen any free rivets for sale at Skimo or CrippleCreek etc. outside of the end kits. This is what I'm talking about.

I just need the rivets. Not the ends.

Is there anything special about rivets used in snow applications or will any old rivet of the proper dimensions do? These are pretty soft rivets. I will admit, I don't know the dimensions of these rivets since they've all been smashed by a hammer!

A simple rivet kit from a building store will work.

Yup, leather supply store or hardware store will have something for you. Does not need to be specific for ski use. There are a few different types out there you can choose from. You want to check both the diameter, and the depth you'll want.

Like others have said, it is easy to find in hardware stores and the like (McMaster, etc).

I did the same once: a fit job on a Black Diamond skin. I called BD to ask em if they had those small parts (rivets); could not see them in their catalog... and they send me some free of charge... Might take a little more time but sometimes, they are fast!

As a similar anecdote: recently, I had a pair of «broken» Rotte Super telemark; they missed the plastic part at the end of the bale. I called Rottefella, they found some and send them to my address free of charge! And I received the package a week or so after! From Norway! I was very grateful... These guys are ready to help...

I just noticed SkiMo has these if you click on Pomoca Skin Parts, Ski Trab Skin Part or Contour Skin Parts in the "Parts and Accessories" section. When you click on these you'll see them in the pull-down menu or the individual pictures.

You can order them from an industrical supplier, but ordering from SkiMo is more fun!

I went by Hobby Lobby but wasn't thrilled with the selection. I had checked Skimo but looked only for Colltex parts. I ordered the Contour rivets. Skimo is often next day delivery!

Rivets showed up two days after ordering. Pretty quick. I drilled out the old, did some adjustments, and put them back on. I preferred the original Colltex rivets. They were a little softer a little shorter and installed a little more smoothly but i think these will work fine.
