NNN BC automatic

I have heard for years people shy away from NNN BC auto bindings, but I think they are great. I have 4 pairs of manuals and 2 pairs of autos. All the autos are on narrower skis and my emphasis is much more on touring than turning.

I have only had minor issues with snow or ice build up but nothing that has ruined the day. I have honestly had more minor issues locking back into magnums then autos after taking them off mid-tour or after encountering overflow or sketchy creek crossings.

I would be nervous of mutliday tours with autos, but only because of the all the negative feedback online, not my own experience.

If they suck that bad Rotefella would have stopped making them, stores wouldnt sell them, and we would have stopped buying them... Just saying.

Who else has had good experiences with the autos?

I have a pair of autos on some rossi bc65s and I've never had a problem with icing or anything else for that matter although I'm not using them in deep snow typically. That being said, I prefer the magnums if given the choice.

I found the auto bindings work fine if occasionally lubricated. Bicycle lubricant or silicone spray will work.

I haven't had any trouble except the first two years I owned them (2012-2013).

I have had auto bindings ice up in me- in wet spring distance BC skiing- but our nights stay warm into late May and our days are very warm by early April- and we get a TON of snow in the early spring.

So it may be a regional climate thing.

For sure. Snow here tends to be dry and cold. Fear of icing bindings comes largely from overflow or creek crossings or wet heavy spring snow, and IME that can have a (mostly minor) affect the manuals the same as automatics. I'm happy with automatics for where I ski. Solid binding.

I was just thinking this the other day as I skied back down a fire road to my car and just used my poles to step out of my autos. I smiled a little at how easy it was. The manual lever of the magnums has given me grief a few times. I’ve yet to deal with ice on the autos but I’m sure if it ever happened, it would be a bugger.

If you ever will be skiing on iced over bodies of water, I think the auto bindings are a hazard. If you fall through the ice, the first thing you need to do after you catch your breath, is to pop off your skiis. Good luck if you've got NNN auto bindings

Another thought I have. If you ever do have problems with bindings icing up - not meaning to be crude, but we all have the ability to summon some warm liquid, if you know what I mean. I have used that method successfully in the past. Hopefully you can swish through lots of fresh snow and they'll be clean and pee free by the time you get to your car.
