That Inov-8 Men's Roclite G 286 GTX Hiking Boot is more boot than I want for the trails but it looks okay. I do have a pair of VivoBareFoot TRACKER II FG that have been a fantastic boot for me. I typically wear FiveToes or go barefoot a lot, it works for me.

Transitioning to minimalist was pretty quick for me, I went out for short periods of time several times a day the first week then started running/building distance after that.

I hear ya there, generally I wear trail runners, la sportiva bushidos and salomon gtx ish stuff. These roclites will be for wet and muddy/snowy shoulder season. They're actually lighter than i thought, they're to replace my scarpa gtx that have well worn Lugs and I find them too much boot as well. Will give them a shot for a bit and then maybe try something with a little less drop. I've just read that it's best to get into the minimal shoes slowly

The Tarahumara would agree, regarding a minimalist approach to footwear.
This is an entertaining read.

I’ve been taking care of bad feet for 20 years as a Pedorthist- IF you have a high arched foot that is on the stiff side it is inherently unbalance towards ankle sprains and will benefit from a footbed with a slightly higher outside heel and a divot for the first metatarsal head.

Also , post ankle injuries, it seems like many feet will benefit from the treatment in the video below. Finding someone who can do it is sometimes difficult. Chiropractors who work on extremities seem like the best option.

Yeah, before doing anything to address chronic issues, consulting an expert is undoubtedly wise!

Back in the 1970's, Outside magazine had a stable of outstanding writers. I think this author may have been one of them. If you can find it, one of the more entertaining articles was "King of the Ferret Leggers"!

Oh, here it is!

I find fire-walking on hot coals helps forget the ankle pain.
