Just got this in - Light Tours of Colorado, Mello backcountry ski routes. Low angle, 20ish deg skiing. I’ve got 4-6 on my list for this Winter. Some of the descriptions for way finding seem written for somebody who already knows where they are going. Routes on pictures could be more bold.

I would suggest everyone read Erlin Stroms “pioneers on skis” which recounts his skiing near Mt Athabaska and his ascent of Denali in the 30’s. Grant Pearson was a partner on that climb and was a real badass, legendary around here. They used skis on the Muldrow glacier to great effect, and Strom even made turns on Karstens ridge about 13000’ just to show off.

For those new to climbing history on Denali, I would recommend a deep dive into the history of the “Sourdough” climb in 1910. Fascinating accomplishment that has new light shed on it the past few years. These guys had homemade crampons with front points that enabled them to cruise up the mountains. All decades before the French technique and Chouinard came into play.
Terri’s Moores “pioneer climbs”, Jonathan Waterman’s latest book, and all the books by Tom Walker are with a read.

@Krummholz That sounds like a really cool book, especially in Colorado, where the snow conditions make low angle touring a safer option.
I would buy the book, but I need to do some of the northeastern skiing I have been reading about. I does sound like a book I would enjoy!

I have an audible credit, anything new? I have a few hours on the brush cutter ahead of me, need something GOOD. I find a lot of contemporary writings to be serving agendas, so I prefer the classics. Last book I read was John Vaillants "Fire Weather" and it was was a huge let down as i had really enjoyed his previous writings but this one was an exercise in political agenda.

Covers touring and XCD techniques I have not seen discussed elsewhere. A lot of good tips for getting the most out of low-snow conditions. I really enjoyed this book.
