Notice that it's a cotton blend so it'll not be a standard nylon shell

I ski 90% of the time with an untreated Norrona cotton anorak, it's a tight weave. I have a Gore-Tex Pack-lite shell to go over it if need be, rarely needs be, maybe 10% of the time. You can normally get them at Bike24.de for a good price but right now they only have the chick model.

Best thing on Amazon- U.S. Military Surplus M65 Liner Pants, perfect hut pants, winter camping pants, or emergency insulated long-johns if you get that -45º jazz. Like 10 bucks.

Like 10 bucks. Probably add 5 or 10 degrees to your sleeping bag rating (coupled with dry wool socks. I think they were designed to protect from a nuclear blast as well. Super stylish to boot.
