Interesting find on the liners...

I'm looking for light weight binoculars for hiking and BC skiing, keep it under $100.. any recommendations??
i'm looking at a Nikon PROSTAFF P3 8x42 Binocular
That is not a very light model you mentioned, at over at 21 oz. Depends what you need them for. I'm not a birder, so I use Binocs for seeing terrain detail up ahead, for summit views, and to view wildlife. I have a Nikon 7x20, not sure what model they are (found them on a trail) but look like the lower end of Nikon's quality range- they weigh 8 oz. I have a pair of Steiner Champ 10x26 they have great optics and weigh 10.5 oz. They cost me 116 EUR.

The Steiner Champ 8x22 is about 8 ounces and will set you back 45 bucks. Good basic binocular.

When I am packing for a ski tour my binoculars usually don't make the cut, I shed the weight. Winter is not the best time for birding, just rype (ptarmigan) mostly.

i like the specs on the Steiner Champ 8x22 @ 8 ounces . i'll look into it. Not into birding, maybe a little perving...mostly pre running ski trails during the warm months trying to find good fall lines for when the pow pow is on the ground, and how to make it to the base of the mountain without hiking my arse off and getting lost.. I do use the cheapo garmin as the "on X maps" may not function on my cell

I use pentax UP 8-16x21. They have held up pretty good, very durable, optically ok. I think I'll go for vortex raptor next just for the warranty. I shove compact binoculars in my pocket without lens covers and knock the about heavily, would like the peace of mind of the vortex warranty despite the reputation for being junky

i got the steiners, and i'm impressed for the size and price. i though the image would be out of alignment and made of poor quality. turns out they are a great choice! thanks man.
