It's very clear that the US has designs on Greenland, yes.

It's reported very widely. All those internal committees and papers that Americans don't know about – they're in the news here, and discussed.

It's also very clear that politics in Greenland are about to go absolutely insane. This is discussed a lot here in Denmark, for obvious reasons.

Greenland's an amazing place. What's going to start going down there politically and eventually culturally, and environmentally if the politics get corrupted, as they surely will, is going to be very painful to watch.

I don't want to start a political debate online and especially not here, but as MuskOx suggests, a vast majority of people in Europe are extremely concerned by current political signals coming from across the Atlantic. It's obvious that we here have different starting perspectives to reading the situation @fisheater.
At least European nations get a kick in the butts to improve defence.

@Musk Ox i am not pointing any fingers at Europe. On the other side of the coin, I don’t believe Vice President Vance said anything that was not correct. He didn’t call anyone in Europe any names. He was concerned about censorship. Over here we have had a lot of government censorship. Fortunately Elon Musk purchased Twitter and exposed how the government was working with social media to censor Americans.
As for my opinion of Europe, from my telescope in Michigan, the food is definitely better, and I would love to go on Holiday for most of August. I think Europe is quite wonderful, even though I’m not good enough in a kayak to paddle there.
Peace, it might be a scary time, I think things will work out well.

I find Vance's speech arrogant and ignorant and preaching the authoritarian right wing agenda of his administration. Clear as day.

As it is here in the States for a significant portion of the population. This has in effect been a coup, laws no longer holding, fueled by greed and desire for vengeance. It's not pretty. While the voices of those who share that mentality are loud, there is a rising tide of condemnation at the political, social, and legal levels.
This administration does betrays and belittles our allies, embraces Putin, has a 100% unelected by anybody millionaire firing thousands of government employees, openly lying and spreading disinformation, and openly, again, actively backing the far right extremist group in Germany that Vance admonished the European council about in that video when he made comments about "you guys just don't like anyone expressing a different point of view than your own".
Meanwhile, not a thing is being done to actually help the people. Slash and burn, drill baby drill, fuck climate change... fuck everything and everyone that doesn't serve me.
Simply expressing my perspective. You are certainly entitled to yours, whatever that be.

Look, I was a bit upset at the unnecessary tone the conversation started with. It's completely true they have laws restricting free speech in Germany: you can't say Nazi stuff. Literal Nazi stuff doesn't count as free speech in Germany. It counts as a prelude to genocide, and it's a crime. We can debate that. But to call that 'Orwellian' is to deliberately ignore a context that's so appalling it's almost unthinkable.

For anyone who's ever been to Germany (or Denmark or Norway, and maybe France, I don't know) there are brass plaques on the pavement outside the front doors of homes and businesses all over the place. They're called 'stumbling blocks. Mostly in Germany, but they have them up where we live in Norway, and I found some in Denmark. They have names and dates, and usually the camp or prison where the Jewish person whose name they record was murdered. They're everywhere in Berlin.

It's fine for Americans to talk about 'censorship' in Europe. But they should come here first and see what Nazism left, I think, it might add some context.

Yeah, you said you were only on 'exercises' on the Ukranian border and we were paranoid and stupid, so no offence, but if you'd stop poisoning people in London and putting firebombs on DHL planes and severing cables in the Baltic that would be lovely x
